Is Social Anxiety Disorder the bane of my existence? Or, am I okay in my isolation, if I don't have to deal with difficult people? Maybe I've developed AvPD (avoidant personality disorder). You need to meet four of seven of the criteria for a diagnosis. I check five of the seven, but have no plans for any new diagnoses. I've had plenty in my 73 years. According to Ellen Hendricksen, PhD, in her book How To Be Yourself, "Anxiety won't kill you, but loneliness will." I'm not sure if I believe that or not, but I want to see what else she has to say on social anxiety, with a few more chapters to go. I plan to resume reading it as part of my exposure therapy.
