PLEASE READ THIS DESCRIPTION! I NEED TO PEOPLE TO KNOW THAT DISNEY IS STILL FINE!
Before I talk about this movie and its cute panda star, I want to talk about what's been happening to Disney in recent months. You may have read or heard what many tabloid journalists and YouTubers have been saying about the iconic company in recent months, mostly negative. I'm here to say to those people in particular to STOP hating on Disney for God's sake!
I've grown sicker and more tired of the destructive criticism against The Walt Disney Company even when its celebrating its centennial, such as Whatculture, Den Of Geek, and other tabloid people unnecessarily spreading their bad takes and making false claims that Disney, Pixar, 20th Century, Marvel, and Lucasfilm have all been struggling to win back their audiences.
I know there are legit criticisms to be had, however, like Disney's questionable ways to cut costs after the pandemic like laying off many of its employees and removing several of Disney+'s shows and movies that have not been doing as well as others. But that's not a genuinely good excuse to hate on Disney for what it does best: making people happy and entertained all day, week, month, and year long with not only its past stuff, but also their recent stuff as well, like "The Little Mermaid" remake, Pixar's "Elemental", and even Marvel's "Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3".
Some people may be unaware that Disney and other studios' films can also rely on other things aside from the box office to have their projects successful. They can use streaming as a tool to bring millions of people in to watch what they have. That's what happen to Pixar three movies in a row with this film, "Soul", and "Luca". And don't forget "Encanto", which became a phenomenon after being released to Disney+ following its underwhelming box office performance. Oh, and uh, hate to burst your bubble, but uh... COVID-19 is still a major concern for a lot of people, you know. Entertainment companies want people to stay safe just like everyone else who has common sense.
Also, many, if not most of these people who keep hating on Disney again and again are most likely those who lean right in their political beliefs, especially those who follow Donald Trump and his biggest rival, Ron DeSantis. Their wars on woke brainwashed their equally mentally dysfunctional supporters into calling Disney the enemy of the American people, calling it and many people within it woke, marxist, or even pedophiles, all because Disney supported the LGBTQ+, Black, Asian, Hispanic, Indigenous, and Muslim communities with every fiber of its being, to the point of turning Ariel into a black girl in the aforementioned "Little Mermaid" remake not because of diversity's sake, but because they wanted a great singer regardless of her race. And don't get me started on other racist and sexist attacks that plagued the receptions towards "Eternals", "Obi-Wan Kenobi", "Ms. Marvel", "She-Hulk: Attorney At Law", and several others.

And one final thing to note is that the dark conspiracy theories about Disney's past and both fans and haters alike spinning the company flaws in the past, like making "Song Of The South" for example, into more of a grimdark way to make the company look bad, didn't help things either with how many people still have genuine faith in Disney and their products.
I've begun to feel very frustrated over how Disney and its affiliates and subsidiaries have been treated by both fans and haters, regardless of their political beliefs. I know this rant isn't gonna be a wake-up call or anything like that to make people stop hating on Disney and make legit criticism and praise over what they do. If they don't learn their lesson and keep doing this, they're gonna be lost causes and have their careers killed if their hate crosses the line into death threats and retarded bigotry.
I hope you understand what I'm feeling right now about the future of The Walt Disney Company, because the unnecessary backlash is just FUCKING ridiculous. Now with that long rant out of the way, let me talk about the movie.
"Turning Red" is a 2022 computer-animated fantasy comedy directed and co-written and Domee Shi and starring Rosalie Chiang, Sandra Oh, Ava Morse, Hyein Park, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Orion Lee, Wai Ching Ho, Tristan Allerick Chen, and James Hong.
Though the film itself is set in Toronto, Canada, Pixar's animators went to Northern California to gather inspiration and visual references. The animation and design were also influenced by various anime.
The songs performed by fictional boy band 4*Town were written by pop star Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O'Connell, while the music score was done by Ludwig Goransson, who marks his debut for an feature-length animated film. He previously did the score to the animated short "Inner Workings", produced by Disney to be released alongside "Moana".
The movie, which was released exclusively to Disney+ in most countries, received critical acclaim for its story, animation, and tackling of topics that reflect the life of an early-teenage girl. It was also very successful, becoming the second most-watched movie on streaming in the U.S. (behind "Encanto") with 11.4 billion minutes viewed.
However, the movie has gained controversy due to its handling of topics like puberty, sexuality, teenage crushes, especially after a review on CinemaBlend, which received backlash from the animation community for its alleged racism. The site later removed the review and apologized for its bad take.
Another review that received massive backlash was one from controversial YouTube personality The Mysterious Mr. Enter. In the review, he not only called the movie "a mixed bag", but also criticized the story for not mentioning the 9/11 terrorist attack, as the film is set in 2002.
The review received tons of ridicule online, with many in the animation community noting that the movie's story was written in such a way that 9/11 is completely unnecessary to it, and had nothing to do with a plot where a Chinese-Canadian girl turns into an adorable red panda whenever she feels very emotional.
Memes were also made as an ironic way to roast Mr. Enter, including Mei being scared of the Twin Towers getting destroyed. The review was one of the biggest factors in Mr. Enter losing thousands of his now-former fans in the early-2020's, along with his anti-mask and anti-vax rants during the COVID-19 pandemic.
