Dok Koon was employed in the logging industry, and tragically, during this time, a log slipped from the chains and rolled onto her leg, breaking her ankle. Despite her injury, she was then moved into the elephant riding industry to service tourists.

Upon receiving information about her dire condition, our founder Lek Chailert and the team immediately mobilized to release her from her suffering.

On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, our team rescued Dok Koon from Surin province in Eastern Thailand. After an arduous journey of 27 hours, Dok Koon finally arrived at her new home in Elephant Nature Park. The soaring temperatures reached 40°C during the journey, and our veterinarian and rescue team provided plenty of food and water to keep Dok Koon hydrated. Thanks to our custom-built truck, Dok Koon was able to enjoy the cooling water from the onboard sprinkler system.

Upon arrival at ENP, Dok Koon was greeted by a welcoming committee of our resident rescued herd, who let out loud trumpets and welcoming rumbles to their newly rescued friend.

Dok Koon quickly settled into her new sanctuary life, free from harm, enjoying a refreshing swim followed by a mud bath. Her new life begins now!

  • Precious Dok Koon, there’s no better welcoming committee than the one provided by other sweet ellies. 💖🐘
  • its like the welcome committee is saying "welcome to the happy place!"
  • Thank you for saving them and loving them. They all deserve respect, friendship and freedom.
  • I donate what I can to you all. I was asked once (this was a while ago..) why? Why do I give money to a place that's halfway around the world to help elephants, which I will likely never see outside a zoo - since I will NOT go to any circus that uses animals - THIS. This is why. 💚🐘💚

Knowing a rescued elephant's back story prior to the rescue is truly painful and heartbreaking, but knowing that they are now at the beginning of a new and far happier life is so relieving. So happy that she is truly home now, with a family who awaits her coming and kind-hearted humans who never want to hurt her. God Bless You, Dok Koon. Thank you, Lek and ENP! May God Bless all your endeavors and mission.❤🐘❤

I don't understand how any human could ride an elephant at all, let alone one with an obvious injury. Thank you to ENP for giving her the rest of her life, in love and freedom ❤️
