Some shiny pokemon are tied to specific methods in the older generations of pokemon games. Today, these methods are in danger, as 3DS online services shut down, potentially bringing pokemon bank with it in the future. Locking all access to them.
In this video, I investigated the fastest ways of getting all the legendary
and mythical pokemon shiny, tested them, and transferred them all through Pokemon Home to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

I FUCKING LOVE SHINY LOCKS!!!! I WANT TO FUCKING BE BLOCKED FROM PLAYING A GAME THE WAY I WANT BECAUSE GAMEFREAK WANTS TO SAVE SHINY POKEMON FOR EVENTS!!!
  • @solidstate000
the deranged spiral you go through at the end when you realize that none of them have a ribbon is incredibly relatable
  • @KniveLing
I really HATE the idea of "Shiny Locked"..
  • @chaosdragun1608
Shiny locking is such a toxic trait of Pokemon and hopefully someday its removed. Having access to so many cool Pokemon each generation only to find out several are locked from thier shiny forms is very discouraging and enraging

25:20 For reference, Japanese has two main alphabets (three if you count kanji, but that's not relevant here). There's Hiragana, which is the blue box, and Katakana, which is the red box. They both contain (mostly) all the same sounds, just represented with different symbols. The difference being that Hiragana is used for regular Japanese words, whereas Katakana is used for foreign words, or Japanese words which may have a foreign origin. For example the Japanese word for taxi is タクシー which is literally just takushi, taxi sounded out using the Japanese sounds. This is an English word that Japanese people use, so they write it using Katakana. All of this is to say, that the symbol for he (へ) is pretty much identical in both Hiragana and Katakana. Certain fonts may try to differentiate them slightly, but yeah, this is the GBA we're talking about. So it's not in fact the same symbol put there twice, it is actually two, near identical (in this case, actually identical) symbols, with different usages, from two different alphabets. Hope this helps the confusion.

25:23 Ah, good old へ and ヘ. The blue page contains all the hiragana characters while the red page contains all the katakana characters. It just so happens that the character for "he" looks pretty much identical in both hiragana and katakana. Funny seeing it cause a potential issue here.

One of us... One of us... One of us... Congratulations, welcome to the cult! Watching someone go from literally zero knowledge, to ultimately tackling one of the most technical applications of the process was a joy. Also kind of hilarious, given that while you were working on this Blisy released the E-Reader event to get CHANNEL Jirachi in Emerald... but the important part is the journey, right? 😅 My favorite bit was when you realized how much fun it really can be. That addictive pull towards competitive shinies, is what ultimately lead to my journey for 5IV Shiny Extremespeed Zigzagoon. Somehow GameFreak inadvertently made the game even more fun, just by writing some bad code. Seriously excellent video, I feel like a proud Papa seeing Gen 3's content revival through glitches & RNG. Keep enjoying Pokemon with your epic voice.

The only problem i can see with RNG manipulation is that every single pokemon encountered on the same frame has the exact same PID, ability slot and nature and I'm not sure if pokemon will make pokemon with identical data illigal in the future seeing as how they made cloned pokemon untransferable in BDSP. So to be safe you might want to do this with multiple save files and TID/SIDs.
  • @userunspecified
i quite literally went through this EXACT phase of addiction to rng manip and grinding thru blisy and jefe's videos and getting help from sleipnir to get ALL of the pokemon you went for then did the exact same stalling to go for specific iv's and ribbons. it's so funny that a decent amount of ppl do this, not just me and you.
  • @SeaCaptainFinn
'but jirachi is in goooo' that research is driving me insane trying to complete it; i'm still making 10 best buddies...

The spiraling at the end as you go even further for all of this on all of your pokemon... yeah, I know that exact experience. My partner has been working on building a shiny living dex for a very long time, occasionally chipping away at it and picking up new pokemon they get. This means that they need some of the very obscure ones, including a shiny manaphy. Well, I happen to own a copy of the original pokemon ranger from my childhood, and I never did the manaphy event in that game. So I restarted my save file, played through the game, and did the manaphy event to get a manaphy egg to transfer over to a gen 4 game. I'd also recently picked up a copy of pokemon diamond, so it was time to begin. I'd done some RNG manipulation in gen 5 before, so I had a bit of experience. I knew I needed to RNG manipulate the egg I picked up to match my TID/SID, but since I was already going for a shiny, why not also manipulate my TID/SID so that I could get one with perfect IVs? So I did. Manipulated the egg, manipulated my TID/SID, hatched a shiny manaphy with perfect IVs and a good nature. But I mean, I'm in gen 4, and it would be a shame to pass up collecting all of those ribbons... So I traded it over to my childhood copy of pearl and beat the E4, got all of the day of the week ribbons from Sunnyshore, got the manaphy to max happiness for the footprint ribbon, and fully EV trained it for the effort ribbon. Then there were the contests. Did all four ranks of all five contest types to get all 20 ribbons, and I believe it's the first time I ever completed a master rank contest in gen 4, since I hadn't played the games since my childhood. And then the money ribbons. Spent a few hours repeatedly rebattling the rich couple south of Hearthome city to afford those. Also the first time I ever entered the ribbon syndicate, which was neat. Then I transferred the manaphy over to soul silver to beat red and get the legendary ribbon. Thankfully, manaphy isn't allowed into the battle facilities, so I was finally done. But gen 6 has some more ribbons... Took it to the Kalos E4 after transferring it up, beat all of the super training minigames with it, and fed it enough sweets for it to love me in pokemon amie. Again, thankfully no battle maison. But, heading over to Hoenn, there's more contest ribbons. Already had all of the master rank contests unlocked, so went through all 5 of those with the maxed contest stats I already had from gen 4 (with a little help from pokeblocks since sheen disappears in gen 6), and got all 5 of those ribbons, plus the contest star ribbon for having them all. And the Hoenn E4 as well. Gen 7 is significantly easier at first, since manaphy is banned from the battle facilities, so just needed the E4 ribbon from Alola. Except that manaphy is allowed in the battle tree normal battles in USUM only. I... don't have those games. But I cannot hand over a manaphy to them that's only one step from being perfect. So I got Ultra Moon, and I'm gonna be playing through it to get the one last ribbon I need. I don't own any Switch pokemon games and I never plan to, so the rest of the ribbons are on them to get once this manaphy is in their Pokemon Home. I'm just one step away from them having... one more pokemon in their living shiny dex. Hooray!

To explain the "capital and lowercase" characters: In the case of the vowels (ア, エ, イ, オ, and ウ) and the y sounds (ヤ, ユ, and ヨ), the small versions are used for sounds that don't have their own characters. For example, the sound "sha" is made of シ (shi) and ャ (tiny ya). So you write it シャ. The smiley face is "tsu", and the tiny version is used for glottal stops, which are kind of hard to explain but are written in Latin letters as two of the letter, like in "zutto" (ズット). The accent marks are called diacritics, by the way. Mostly they change the consonant associated with the sound ("ha" to "ba" or "pa") And of course, all of these apply to hiragana as well. Katakana in particular has some interesting uses for the tiny characters in loanwords, to create sounds that normally don't exist in Japanese like "ti", but that's a whole nother can of worms. But yeah, if you don't read Japanese, it's basically a game of matching pictures, and the tiny ones do not help. Kudos. Edit: The OT of Tanabata Jirachi is, predictably, "Tanabata.".

Wow I didn’t think my limited coding knowledge would help me understand this slightly. That’s incredible this game has been decoded on SID for determining shinies.
  • @LaggerKnight
About the Scar/Viol snack legends: another possibility is that the shininess of the legendary could've been determined when you get the snack, and Gamefreak just wanted to save our sanity, given that the snacks you get are already rng based
  • @Acornyo
We have to set up a reserve so these Pokémon can repopulate and hopefully not go extinct. The Trails Wildlife Reserve.
  • @boomerleo89
I was fortunate to have found a Black2 copy with a shiny jirachi on it. It has since made the transition to my switch.
  • @solidstate000
28:00 all of the data actually survives. While it seems met location is scrubbed when you check in Home, checking the same Pokemon in PKHex actually shows the exact met location from Gen 3. All the data is still there, for some reason they just dont show it for Gen 3 and 4.

Just like Papa Jefe and im a blisy, you managed to take a topic I didn't think could last 35 minutes and make it interesting for 35 minutes. Let's hope we can get your subscriber count to the funny number soon!
