Next To Me by OverTime (Written Lyrics)

I look up at the sky and I see you in my eyes and I’m, almost blown away. Almost looked down at the ground and how, I was taught to pray. Told myself I’m only strong if I can finally say, I found the one that holds me up and sends me on my way. Now I’m headed down this road, and, maybe I’ll be late, but I’m only one man and I’m doing all I can. Can you stand there with me, can you hold my name? Will you save my soul from going down in flames?

I just wanna look back in the past of mine, know that I made it with a passion rhyme, with you standing by my side when I pass my prime, when I hang that mic up, I’ll be fine. Did I do enough, did I live the life that I? Set out for, did I learn to fly? Did I change a life? Did I reach my height? Did I aim the right way when I was aiming high? Do I make you proud, when you think of me? Do you believe in my words so faithfully? When I tell you that I’m really coming home to you. When I tell you that I know that we’re meant to be.

Chorus:

(2x’s) I don’t wanna run. I don’t wanna hide. I just wanna stand with you standing by my side.

(2x’s) Looking at the man in the mirror. The man in the mirror isn’t looking at me.

Verse 2:

I remember when we met, I was in a bad place of mind, and you didn’t walk away. You just stood there right there by my side and you told me I was great. I’ll never forget the first day that I, saw your pretty face. I knew right then I was on the road and I finally found my way. Now I’m headed down this road, and, maybe I’ll be late, but I’m only one man and I’m doing all I can. Can you stand there with me, can you hold my name? Will you save my soul from going down in flames?

I just wanna make life with the love of mine, never look back to the bad place that I’ve, come from, that I’ve been numb from, now that I’m something, I just wanna make you mine. I wanna talk with you, I wanna walk with you, I wanna build this empire. Rock with you, and take it off with you, I wanna spend all of my time. I don’t wanna run, I don’t wanna hide, I just wanna stand with you standing by my side.

Who else has listened to this song so much that know the words beginning to end
  • This song hit harder and deeper than ever before to me today. It's not about a woman to me, it's family. When my soul hurts and I can't let it out. The lyrics allow comfort, I'm not the only one who feels this.

It's hard to listen to it over and over. It's so fitting to my life right now, it brings a tear to my eye.
  • As a recovering alcoholic, my wife of 20 years has been my rock this song hits pretty hard. She has been by my side every day as I recover.

I grew up in one of the worst ghetto's in the US where we ran the streets 100% and I lived the life style expecting not to live to see 18 years old, then all the sudden im in my mid 20's I'm still alive and still doing the same street shit. Then god sent me an angel that saw through the drugs and weak future but still loved me for me and im talkin a dime in my eyes, just he perfect woman I needed as if sent by god to give us both what we needed in life and now the streets are in our past and im living a life a never knew I wanted but can't live without. Now that I've seen what life can be with your soulmate next to you and the streets behind us both I realize that growing up in a place with no options doesn't mean you and die in the streets. You just need to find your reason to do what you got to do to leave that life behind and to be honest its not as impossible to get out of the hood with no family to speak of or help of any kind. Just grind your ass off and don't think you need a fancy house and cars to live an amazing and fulfilling life...Thank god for the miracle I call my wife

She came into my life when I was at the lowest of my lowest.. spinal cord injury .. n she didn't hide or run she stood by my side n I let her down...told me I was great she loved me...she kept me going stronger than I thought I could ever be.. all I wanted was to be able to stand with her standing by myside still.... I'm so sorry ..I miss u n I love u still.
