#10MinuteTalk - 6 ARC: You Asked….A Lot!...Here It is!

You asked, we listened – and we are glad we did. The 6 ARC is coming on the cartridge scene fast and furious. Not Fast and Furious 5 fast, but still super-fast. ARC stands for advanced rifle cartridge. That may be an understatement. From precision-rifle work, spotting impacts, making wind calls and knocking deer-sized game to the earth, the positive attributes of this petite, light recoiling cartridge are many. And as per usual, our own Ryan M. tells us all about it.

Best Christmas present of the year was to hear the silky tones of Ryan Muckenhirn talk about the ARC...
  • I have and still do personally run the 6 ARC in a bolt gun in PRS as well as Competition Dynamics team matches. I have documented 6,000 rounds and counting down pipe of a barrel and still shoots near 1/2 MOA. It's capable of pushing a 105gr Berger Hybrid at 2950 FPS with some room to hit over 3K. A phenomenal cartridge that I'm happy to see standardized as I played with the Wildcat variants in the past

the fact they made a intermediate cartridge that over takes and beats the 243 win when passing 200 yard mark; that also fits in an ar-15 is truly amazing.

Target shooting the 6ARC in a standard AR15 platform with a 20" barrel at 1000+ yds is a hoot. Virtually no recoil. Clear sight picture of vapor trails, impacts & misses. And took my first deer with it this year with a 108gr Berger EOL. Dropped her on the spot very impressively. Love the cartridge.
  • Personally I went with the 6.5 Grendel and I love it . Good little round . Have it in a Howa mini action 1500 shoots great good on deer
  • Gentlemen I watched and subscribed, nice video. Many years ago I carried the M1A1 Carbine on my first several inserts as my secondary firearm, the CAR15, AR15 as well in later years. For 47 years I've been waiting for someone to make a ONE rifle, ONE projectile option for the AR platform. I bought an Aero Precision complete upper in 16", an Aero Precision lower. I also have a 6MM Remington in a 700 Remington bolt gun, that's 37 years old. With 105 Hornady Black I printed 1/2" 100 yard groups. I've got it zeroed at 500 with the iron sights, mounting a1x8 scope. Little recoil, little heat. With my dies and loading materials I believe I have the tool for up close and personal and extended range work the M1A1 Carbine and M4 could not achieve. The 5.56 NATO in a short rifle is poor at ranges past 350 yards in wind. The 6MM ARC with 105's handles wind much better is flatter than the 5.56 inthe M4. My AR15 A2 with a 20" barrel and 69 grain Hornady match is flatter at 600 yards by a bit than the 16" 6MM ARC but the ARC blows the 5.56 away in the wind. I have faith that the 103 Hornady will work just fine, ONE projectile ONE rifle for all my general rifle needs. Buy it you'll like it.

Building one for my 6 yr old as his hunting AR. Seems like the best round for him to do coyotes, deer, groundhogs. Also Ryan looking happy to be back for day 3, wearing the same cloths is hilarious. Thanks guys.

I built a 12” 6 ARC for my 8 yr old to hunt with this year and he took a doe and a buck with it.
  • @22sniper70
Built a Grendel like Ryan described and I absolutely love it!!

I spoke to one of my employees that shoots rifle matchs with his 6BR bolt gun and he says the 6ARC is ridiculously close to that cartridge. I told him I'm going to build a 6ARC in a gas-gun, and he usually gives push back when I say I want to build a gun, all he said was do it! My range partner that reloads and geeks out on balistics is going to build a gas-gun in a 6ARC too. Probably an SBR; he says balistic charts suggest the cartridge lends itself well to an SBR build that can reach out to long range territory, based on everything I have heard I think this round will gain popularity!

I have been running a 6ARC based off a howa mini action for about 9 months now and it is such a great cartridge. Depending on twist you can run the 58gr v-max for varmint control, 90gr Sierra game changers for prs or hunting at longer ranges, up to about a 107/108gr for long distance steel shooting. I’m about to have another one made out of my cz 527. No one seems to be talking about how well this cartridge can perform over a huge range of applications! Great video guys
  • @jdrollason
Thanks Tyler Mason for your peristence. I've been shooting it since it came out and I love hearing about it
  • Built one this year, great cartridge. Use it for hunting and already have 2 hogs and a deer under it. Surprisingly hard hitting.
  • @johnknierim9017
i have a 6 arc gas gun with a 22” bbl, built it myself and i love it. i finished it in November 2020. i’m still playing with did loads ( hunting ) i also have a 6.5 Grendle for the, bolt and gas gun. finished the gas gun first and then converted 700sps to 6.5 from a 223.in 2015. a the bolt made , by the same company i purchased the chamber reamer, out of Oregon.
  • I'm building a 6mm ARC now, but it has big shoes to fill when it comes to my Grendel. I'm handloading 120 grain gold dots and my hogs and deer pay with their life at range. Being able to resize 7.62 x 39 brass to use in the Grendel is a bonus
  • @firee2
Currently putting together a 6 arc for my daughter for prs. She currently uses a 6 creed and convinced me that 6 arc in a gas gun was the way to go. This is the first cartridge that I have brass, bullets, powder all before the rifle shows us. We will be shooting the 108 hornady or the berger.
  • @dankcincy
The 6 ARC in a 16" barreled AR has been my 1000yrd steel ringer since 2020. I absolutely love it!!! Edit: I have recently switched to a 20" Proof barrel. I'm getting 2650fps give or take with the Hornady 105s and 108s. I only have 40rnds through it at the moment. Once the barrel speeds up and with hand loads, 2700+ should be achievable. We will see where the barrel wants to be at though.
  • @bryonjmordhorst
As soon as the brass becomes more available I will build Ryan's "stick gun" for 55 and 90 gr bullets. Will be a practice, varmint, deer, and truck gun
  • I built a 20" gas gun in 6ARC that I use for pigs. Struggled for a long time finding a load that worked well, but once I found it. man it was life changing
