This is a pretty great instructional video. I've never used Blender before but wanted to try creating some 3d terrain. Did a little bit of research, created a pretty basic heightmap in GIMP for a fictional area, followed these directions, and made a pretty cool 3d map of this fictional area pretty easily. The only thing I would say is before applying deform, go back to Object mode (maybe he said that and I missed it). Great stuff.
  • Very useful video. I was editing an older 3D flyover and had issues with file size and rendering speed. After watching this video I rebuilt from scratch and have a higher resolution, faster rendering animation. You technique is much easier and the video is straightforward. Thank you.

I was having issues working with the existing GIS plugins to import GeoTiff "displacement maps" and now I know how to use them directly :) Thanks!

Nice man, definitely useful! I'll have to boot up Blender and give this a shot. 💯

Cool tipp with the site. Love it. Tipp: shift+t to place lights cone (holding ctrl will move the light) and for materials, use nodes. Not that hard but you will see the benefit of nodes QUICKLY ! :-)

Great tutorial. Can you provide instruction for removing the ocean part of the 3d map? I would like a model of just the landscape.

It's funny you put this out I really need a new solution for environments. I usually work in C4D but am looking to blender/UE more and more so this is very quick/easy/helpful to add to my ever growing list of things to try lol 😆

A great tutorial, thank you so much for posting. I'm very new to this and am trying to mesh a recent high-res imagery capture to a LiDAR-derived DEM for the same terrain obviously. I have encountered a problem when trying to import the high-res .tif file and I go to material preview, my plane image just turns purple instead of showing the terrain imagery. Any suggestions for this particular problem?? Hugely thankful for the content bro, I look forward to seeing more of your work!
