Just wanted to say that in hindsight, my section about storyboarding was highly misinformed and completely mixed it up with animatics and key framing, which is a massive blunder on my part. There's similar points that can be made about the animatic creators, which I was actually trying to talk about, but still, some of that was also mixed with keyframing. Conclusion: I'm a dumbass

Considering the fact that they're named after herbs, it's very funny how almost none of the characters have any growth

Part of this show's premise is a plot hole. Why would Sage's parents send her to a school where they only do new magic if they want her to do only old magic?

This feels less like a story being told and more like a bait to form fandoms over

Rosemary's pink hair being a genetic thing rather than some "GuEsS tHe MaIn ChArAcTeR" type beat might unironically be the only actually creative thing about this series

As a writer myself, I absolutely love High Guardian Spice. It gives me such amazing examples of how to write a bad story and what to avoid in my own works Edit: how tf am I still getting replies on this, y'all wack

"blames critics for not realizing she was Tumblrpilled" I can't believe she unironically did the "but your honor, my client is simply based" meme but to herself

You know what would have been cool? If the spices they would've named their main characters after would have reflected said characters personalities. Just a thought.
  • "and it would have an all female writing staff" now that is not a bad thing and says nothing about a piece of work but bragging about that is a 100% absolute guarantee that its gonna be garbage
  • This show makes me feel better about my writing. Even though my writing is not the best, I feel like it’s miles better then the writing on High Guardian Spice.
  • Having an all-female writing staff doesn't mean a damn thing when none of them can write anything good. If anything it makes the prospect of an all female writing team seem like an awful idea.
  • Fun Fact: In High Guardian Spice, one of the characters is missing her dad. This is a subtle nod to the fact that the writers have no father figure. Truly one of the shows of all time
  • This very much so feels like a story that was developed in the creator's head so much, to the point they struggled to introduce the story and characters to us because to them the story and characters had been cemented for so long, it just felt natural that those rules and relationships were as they are.

This show is a goldmine for fanfiction because the groundwork is already there. Now you just have to give the characters actual character and make the worldbuilding yourself!

People keep saying this looked like a cartoon network show instead of an anime but like already the big 3 (Disney, Nick and CN) were making shows that either parodied or put an original spin on formulas like this. Like this show looks and feels like a parody of what other shows like STVFOE and Steven Universe were doing years ago.
  • The walk cycles look bad because they don't match the speed the characters move across the screen at, creating dissonance and making it obvious it's a gif being moved across a static background. Gives a feel like old games that used 3d models on prerendered backgrounds, except worse.

My theory on why there are so many stock images of bread, fruit, plants, etc. is because the storyboarders drew market stalls or flower pots with the assumption that the animators would just fill those things with food and plants. But of course the animation team couldn't read minds so the High Guardian Spice team scrambled to fill in all those empty baskets, tables, and so on. Likewise, the stuff like lampposts were probably added when the team got the finished product back and saw just how barren many scenes looked.

The part where they announced that they had an "all female writing staff" is a red flag. Companies don't usually do this unless it's to cover up some sort of deficiency that the show has or they think "wowie! We're progressive. Look at us being progressive." and think that's enough to carry the show.

Spice:represents what the main cast (should) is named after Guardian:represents what the main cast want to become High:Represents what state of mind the writers were in when creating this show
  • @PoorEdward
The cutting hair to symbolize character development without actually having character development is really a reflection of the writers’ own character developments.
