  • I would pay big bucks to sit with Mr. Seymour Washington and listen to his stories.

I gotta Shout out to Nora Jones, who introduced me to Townes Van Zandt, one of the greatest songwriters Texas ever produced. Thanks Nora!

The part where he says God made Whiskey and Townes replies Amen always makes me smile.

As an old man who spent his teenage yrs in the Smokies, I can so relate to all of this. From the whiskey, to Seymour, to the girl. Takes me back...

I hope that all of us have at least one walking blacksmith in our lives. Other than my own father, in my lifetime, I've only met two that truly fit the bill.

Witty Townes is the best, the man was sharp in his jokes. Would love to have been his friend
  • A tortured soul and brilliant poet/musician such as Townes, who was so acquainted with sorrow and self immolation; who also wrote about those things in his music. One could argue he wouldn’t have produced what he did without alcohol. Though he was a man of privilege and wealth. He was fully committed to his own suffering and addiction, both which were almost props that authenticated his art. The blues man.. I’ve heard some musicians say when they got sober they could no longer create.

You see poor Townes get real scared when Uncle Seymour answers his jibe which he made at 4:25. He knows the liquor and the poppy have him by the balls.

This world needs more real, down to earth singer / songwriters like Townes 🥲👍❤️
  • Too much drinking and smoking is bad for your health, But I know that this no good living style is sometimes necessary to produce great music and storytelling, this is the fuel for a great life. When I finally catch my Connemara Pony, I going to bring him to this very fine and expert walking/talking blacksmith and have him fitted with new flying shoes so we can take flight and leave only dust behind as we head on down the way on The Wild Atlantic Way

Seymour! , that man saw a life beyond our eyes, I wish we had an archive of his stories and his outlook , his logic . The wisest will always go before us. 😪

Thank you Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell for introducing me to Townes Van Zandt, Pancho and Lefty is probably the best songwriting of the 20th century. Pick it and it won’t ever heal.
