While Harry Potter is a series that may appeal to children, this video specifically is not, and covers the series from a perspective and style that is not “made for kids.” As such, this video is accurately labeled “Not for kids” under the COPPA act.

PLEASE READ! My video on the most underrated relationship in the Harry Potter series: https://youtu.be/r6kfkwE4VE8 Table of Contents: 0:00 - Introduction 3:12 - Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone 13:20 - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets 21:00 - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban 40:43 - Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire 1:07:08 - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix 1:31:13 - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince 1:57:17 - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 2:34:16 - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 2:56:34 - Conclusion I did not mention this in the video, but the primary audience for this critique are people who are familiar with both the books and the films. People who have only seen the films will hopefully get a lot out of it too, but there are a couple of sections of the video that may confuse them because I don’t completely contextualize the book aspects I’m referring to. This is pretty rare though and overall I do make the video approachable for film-only people as I explain things from the book very often. Also, I misspoke in the DHII section and said that George died, but it was actually Fred. I am aware that there are some inconsistencies with the audio in this video and I apologize for that. The production process for this was long and arduous for a number of reasons (I started working on this in June of 2018), and that has resulted in it not being as totally technically polished as it could be. In the beginning I say that it has been seven years since DHII came out, when it’s actually been eight at the present.. which tells you how long I’ve been trying to get this out, lol. Despite that, I think it’s pretty well put together for a 3-hour video and I’m very happy with this passion project overall. I hope you enjoy. Sources for this video are linked in the description.

Also spot on about Hermione being given more than Ron. I hate how they dumbed down Ron and gave Hermione alot of his good moments. They treated Ron like comic relief in the movies and gave Hermione all the moments where Ron's growing up a wizard comes in handy.

I always took the "Nice one, James" line to be more demonstrative of how Sirius was certainly a father figure for Harry but had his own flaws too, in that he was never mature enough to father him completely. To me this just means that we the people we've loved and lost can't ever be replaced but we can always find pieces of them still left in our world.
  • Amos diggory crying over his sons dead body is the best peice of acting through all 7 films in my opinion, every time I see it I imagine a real dad reacting like that
  • @jirotrom
Prisoner of Azkaban was so beautifully shot. The cinematography was so fantastic

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: We need more action! Set the burrow on fire and have them fight the death eaters with no consequence. Also: Remove the battle of the astronomy tower. Like whut? Definitely should have done the opposite in my opinion.

Really love how you highlighted that Prisoner of Azkaban was the first to make Hogwarts itself a character and give so much context to where things are. I’ve always liked Prisoner way more than the first 2 but that points out another solid reason why.
  • Me: I love how the castle is shown Alecz: It feels like the castle isn't presented cohesively Me: Totally incohesive castles

Dobby has the best arc in the franchise. Harry was a chosen one, he was always going to fight the dark lord. It was prophecy and fate, and all that stuff. But Dobby was a free Elf. He did not have to do anything. He could have gone anywhere, done anything, been anyone. But instead he used his freedom to choose to fight for his friends. To this day the most powerful moment in the series for me is that lingering shot on his grave. Here lies Dobby a free elf.

Dude I was about to study and you drop 3 hours vid about harry potter? Do you not want me to graduate?
  • While I can respect Half-Blood Prince as one of my favorite books in the series, I take serious issue with the movie. Mainly because of the lack of flash-backs. The flash-backs in the books weren't just used as convenient ways for Harry to learn about what he might be facing. They were used, primarily, as a character study for Voldemort. With them we learn every weakness of Tom Riddle and everything that he lacks that Harry himself has. We learn about his mother, which is an important part of his story, because it finally shows why Voldemort has a weakness towards love. This is something that we found out in the first book/movie but were never given a reason for it. We learn about his obsession to control aspects from the magical world, because he was convinced that he was the only one that should have this power. We learn that he went to Dumbledore and tried to get a teaching post, because of his desire to train the young witches and wizards to hate the muggles as much as himself. To me, each and every one of those flash-backs play an important part in Voldemort's overall story and they truly give you the full picture of who Voldemort was and what he was made of. I understand that they tried to make the movie more action packed and more in line with how 16 year olds would act, but I feel that they could have done with less of those artistically minded scenes and done the flash-backs instead. Just my opinion though.

I always viewed "Nice one James" as a beautiful callback to what I'm sure were many epic battles with Sirius and James fighting side by side. For me it sparked imagination in their time in the Order together, and the many intimate experiences they shared that caused James to choose Sirius as Harry's Godfather.

This is genuinely a really good video but I feel like something that didn’t get attention was that the first film is aimed at an 11 year old and as the books do, the films grows up with the viewer, hence why the first films are more like a fantasy and the final are more like a struggle as it gets darker and closer to a much more adult goal than could have ever been imagined at the start

Me at 4:30 AM: Hm, I want to check this out... I don't have to watch all 3 hours.. Me 7:30 AM: 😭 what a beautiful review
  • @jaysmith4843
the “look at me scene” is one of my favorite parts of the whole series, he killed it
  • The character arc and development of Kreatcher was something that was also down played that was not mentioned in this video. It endears him to us as a character and really raises questions about the type of person his master Regulus Black was. He was a silent hero that no one knows about. He provided Harry with ace-in-the-hole that Voldemort was unaware of.
  • For me the "nice one James" is really sad. It shows how Sirius is still living in the past. He never got the time to move on from it with the time he spent in Askaban. And after he escaped from there he was on the run. (His relationship with Snape portraits this as well) It shows how Sirius is a flawed character, but at least for me it doesn't dampen how much he loves and cares for Harry.

1:09:00 The behind the scene's reveals she herself is a MASSIVE Harry Potter fan. Often berating the other actors and sometimes even directors on OOC moments. She truly understood the characters on a level beyond even the actors who played them.
  • @chelsea9588
"Bonnie Wright is wooden, yet again." Lol basically describes every scene she's in throughout the series. Love this video, it must have been so much work to make!
