"BetterHelp" (once a prominent YouTube sponsor...) is making a comeback on the platform after 6 years, with a massive advertising push in the wake of newly forgotten scandals, and breaches of trust.

While some viewers may not remember the details about this company... that doesn't change their track record, and it certainly does not mean that their business ethics have improved. Today I wanted to re-evaluate this company since it will be appearing on a lot peoples feeds with increasing frequency over the coming months.

My mom is part of a company for therapists that are suing them because they literally used my mom’s counselor profile without her consent. They are a scam
  • @amicaaranearum
People taking paid sponsorships should not be allowed to falsely imply that they used a service they didn’t use.
  • @bakawaki
Companies that prey upon people's mental health really need to face criminal charges.
  • @glassramen
Don't forget the psychological manipulation of making the cancel button say "quit therapy." Seems innocuous to some sure, but that phrase has serious power behind it to anyone who has gone through therapy and deals with psychological issues. It's akin to saying "You need help, but you're actively deciding to not take it."

Too many YouTuber's DO NOT research these companies before accepting the sponsor's paycheck. It's sad 🙄
  • I’m really proud of Danny Gonzalez who, once people told him what better help actually was like, took the sponsor off the video. More people need to do that
  • fuck im so glad i use crippling alcoholism as a coping mechanism over online mental health alternatives.
  • BetterHelp-ing themselves to your wallet. And all the influencers promoting this garbage should be ashamed.
  • @metazare
I unsubbed to a lot of channels when I saw them start shilling this. People have the memory of goldfish.
  • @vrkhel
    I'm a simple man. I see a Betterhelp sponsorship, I unsubscribe.

I keep getting gambling ads after i started searching for gambling addiction self help videos.

The nice thing about YouTube ads is that it lets me know which products, services, and companies to AVOID!

The whole "creators need sponsors for money" thing really isnt that clear cut. I need money to survive. Im dirt poor. But if i start selling dangerous drugs on the street that will cause harm to my customers then thats not okay. The viewers are customers and when you're sponsored your essentialy selling us that product or selling us on it using your influence so if that product is harmful then its not justified by "creator need money"

Now imagine them selling those data to insurances so they don’t accept you for pre-existing conditions
  • @exiledzebra8740
I've tried the app and I felt like I was helping the councilors with their mental health more than they "helped" me
  • Ironic having an incogni sponsorship, considering the fact that they don’t exactly make it easy to cancel their subscription plan either, deliberately.

My actual therapist recommended better help. I was shocked. I tried to tell her it wasn’t to be trusted because she didn’t believe me
