The camera position, simplicity of this lesson and ghost hand are literally genius

You ever feel like you’ve been in the dark for years, and then someone comes along and leads you out of it in just a few minutes? That’s how I feel right now about this teacher.

This is single handedly the most impactful guitar lesson I’ve ever seen

There are so many comments like this and 11 million views says it all, but I felt I needed to comment a massive massive thank you! This is an incredible lesson. Your ability to make something that can be quite difficult to understand so simple is such a gift. Again, thank you, thank you, thank you! For taking the time to create this!

i cannot imagine the amount of work needed to edit this video.

Ghost hands are literally the most genius idea I’ve ever seen for a lesson video.
  • You have cleared up so many things that I have just been totally lost on. I can't tell you how many books, videos, friends, etc. that couldn't explain it in a way that I could grasp. Thank you so much for making these videos.

This might be the best caged explanation and demonstration I’ve ever seen or heard. I had to white knuckle learning notes and how chord positions changed. I took lessons from about 11-13 and mainly learned basic chords, some scales, some riffs, some songs, but never was taught proper recognition of the neck. Once I started just practicing on my own it became kind of a natural step as I realized I could play essentially the same thing in different placement. Id recommend this video to anyone learning even if you have an instructor
  • This man has cracked the code on how to film the fretboard. Mad props coming from a film person

This might be the best online guitar lesson I've every seen.

In my guitar playing journey, I was just beginning to feel like I was stuck by lack of understanding of how the fretboard truly works- and I found this video and wow. I get it now. I’m a student with basically no money so having information like this, and a pdf, for FREE, is one of the most amazing things. Thank you truly, SPJ.
  • I’ve been trying to wrap my head around this for years and you have made it crazy clear for the first time. Thank you!
  • @12south31
The ghost hand effect was perfect. I usually find it really hard to see where the fingers go in tutorials.
  • @2001maurits
The extra effort of the see through hands is definitely awesome

I’ve been playing guitar for a little over a year. I’ve had the urge to dive a little deeper into the fretboard and you have answered every question. Top notch video. The way you explain thing is extraordinary. Your tempo of teaching is perfect. Not to fast to the point I can understand what is going on and fast enough for it not to get stale. Thank you for this video

Dude. Decades of trying to figure this out, and you managed to pull it all together for me. Gonna spend a lot of time rewatching this in the near future. So amazingly well done, the overlays are incredibly helpful
  • @codyjewell1460
The way you overlayed the image on the fretboard was incredibly helpful.
  • @o0Donuts0o
OK, as a professional bedroom guitarist that has played to an audience of zero for over 20 years, this is for me how cavemen felt when discovering fire make nom-nom food.
  • @xqzmoi
What elevates this lesson over the multitude of similar lessons is its clarity. Scott Paul's organization and delivery of the material make it easy to follow. Thank you!
  • I saw 11M views and was thinking that's a lot but then I watched it and think it deserves SO much more. I have never seen such a clear and simple explanaition of an otherwise complex topic in my life. You really gave me a new lease of my guitar journey which had stagnated a little
