You know, when a contemporary figure leaves us and moves into history, we feel loss, but for those of us who love history and cherish this country's past, they are never really that far away. We thank you for a lifetime of service and achievement for this country Senator Dole. God bless you and sleep well.

A great American hero. Just like John McCain, he stood for his principles and was a class act. My condolences to the Dole family. R.I.P. Senator Dole.

Another loss of a great American from that resilient generation when sacrifice in service for one's country was not questioned. My thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues.

RIP. I hope that our nations leaders take a minute to try to understand how American bipartisan legislation should be practiced. More than ever, America needs leaders from both side of the aisle to be more like Bob Dole.

I was very fortunate to have met Senator Dole and I even shook his hand! He was in Rochester, NY for a Lifetime Inspiration Award which was presented to him by Lifetime Assistance, a nonprofit agency for people who have disabilities. He wasn't supposed to sign autographs that evening, but he signed one of his books for me. This was back in 1999. I have a photo of him and I around here somewhere and I still have that book. Bob will be greatly missed and I'll always remember his kindness.

RIp A true Republican with principles, who led an honorable life. Unlike so many of the current thugs who call themselves Republicans.

Yes, Bob Dole prided himself in the Senate as a great compromiser, and to him that was not a weakness but a way of getting the job done in a way that benefitted everyone.... not just those who had the upper hand. One can only hope some of that spirit rubbed off on politicians still around today.

I like that Bob Dole could make light of himself in public speaking and then to have this almost religious fervor about his causes and commitments.
