The Lexus RZ450e is Lexus's First Electric car and it is not very good. In today's video I share the unfortunate truth about the Lexus RZ.

We start our review with a thorough technical review of the RZ and it's mechanical\electrical construction.

Then we take a tour underneath it.

Then we look at the outside and inside. Then I share with you the issues with the Lexus RZ and why it is like that. Mainly the low range, unpredictable range count and the long charging time.

The Lexus RZ is seriously lacking behind competitors like Tesla and others. The reason it is lacking is Lexus's commitment to reliability which in this case unfortuatnly works against them.

Ahmed is a legend! I've been once in his shop and I have never ever seen any shop that comes even close to his level in the term of professionalism and attitude.
  • Toyota is not at all convinced that electric is the way to go, so they have put forth a half-ass effort in their development.

As a loyal Toyota owner I love Ahmed’s channel. He tells it like it is good/bad/mediocre. Hope Toyota engineers follows his channel to find out the issues from an informed/reliable mechanic/user. Thanks Ahmed. 🇨🇦

Добрый день! Я не говорю на английском, но всегда внимательно смотрю твои профессиональные обзоры авто. Благодарю тебя!

"when the very low range runs out and you are waiting for the tow truck, this is a nice place to be" Legendary
  • "When your very low range, and you're waiting for a tow truck", oh Ahmed, had me in tears their man😂Toyota would be well served to have you as a design consultant. Thanks as always, and may God Keep You and Bless You, and You have yourself a wonderful day my man.
  • Great review. Great honesty here. The range issue makes this car a complete no go. If the future is electric, Toyota is in big trouble. When this thing arrived, dealers were asking $25k over msrp. Can’t imagine they sold too many.

I just got done with technical training on the RZ. The fabric is for the radiant heat. THAT's why there's no glove box. It's just a different vehicle.

I’m more interested in the GSF on the hoist back there! Take that any day over a RZ lol

When I started watching your videos I thought you were a Toyota/Lexus psychofan like me, but the more I've watched you I've realized you are a rational, and your videos are more objective and well thought out. You call out the things things I would have over looked just because it's a Toyota or Lexus if not up to standards or simply don't make sense from them and pause them objectively. I love that! Thanks for all you do and the advice, great videos too. Be blessed as well
  • Still love my plug-in hybrid. Commute distance is same as EV range, so an EV vehicle most days, but still can go over 500 miles on a full tank of gas for long distance driving. Best of both worlds.
  • I test drove this vehicle and honestly I loved it. I will say it's a different approach for lexus, the materials were so different from their other models. Some features I want added in, But all in all I loved it.
  • Lexus left a lot to be desired with this car, but then again it’s the first actual EV so hopefully Toyota/Lexus can learn from this car and improve a lot on their next iteration.

It's hard to justify $60,000 for that, even given the range and it's a Toyota. Might be OK for Arizona or Southern CA, but in the cold north, the range would truly suffer
  • @Mebensamwyatt
I drive a Tesla and learned that you never place the setting for range on "miles". Always set it on battery percentage. This acts most like a ICE fuel guage. You wouldn't drive your gas vehicle around monitoring "miles of range" because it also adjusts based on environmental and driving conditions. Works great and i never worry about range...only about battery percentage left

Electric Vehicles are overrated. Lexus probably felt they needed to be on the bandwagon. Most electric vehicle owners are "look at me, I'm on the cutting edge of technology" You can see that on the roads in California. When there are so many of these vehicles on the roads, I laugh when they start to panic that they need to find a charging station. California's major utility company, PG&E penalizes their consumers that use electricity between the hours of 4 pm to 9 pm. I don't see enough indicators that those promised charging stations will be up and running to handle the demands. Look at San Francisco where the real estate land values are more important for housing and businesses than a charging station. People who live in San Francisco find it cumbersome to own a boat, to fill up their boat's gas tank when the gas stations are so small that they have to jockey their towed boat and car to fill their gas tanks. Going to be even more worse when those all electric trucks have to replenished their batteries with their boat behind them on a trailer hitch. Having a hybrid vehicle just makes more sense especially when there's a major electrical outage during those peak demand events when the temperatures approach the 90° to 105° Summer and Fall season. Good luck Lexus. I'm staying away from your showrooms when it comes to your all electric vehicles.

Ahmed, these are the best reviews because of the actual, real technical explanation of the components under the hood. Anyone can explain the simple stuff like LED lights and aero components, but you still need a genuine Master tech (like yourself) to give a truly satisfyingly technical review. True mastery of something is when you're able to take an extremely complex topic and explain it in simple, easy to understand language, and that's what you've been doing with all of these technical reviews.
  • I took my car to TCCN last Friday for oil and filter i got to see AMD he is just what you see on his channel a god loving man that cares about you and your car i felt so much better about this world after leaving his shop a very wonderful man.
