How it's made s2e4- Animation

  • A full year for a 24 minutes show, now that's really tedious. But i still want to be an animator.

I can definitely understand why it took a year or longer to make a 24min show; the technology was state of the art back then and the concept of 3D animation steps was/still a lot more different than how 2D animations are created. Wire framing, CGI , adding textures/details, light source, rendering, how many frames per second and minute, etc. are important things to consider when working in the 3D animation field, therefore making it a longer process to finish. 2D animation involves similar concepts that 3D animation, but it's mostly made in programs that handle that plane (also including keyframes, tweening, "in-betweeners", frame-by frame concepts). Both of these processes can take a very long time depending on how many frames you want to include for each second of animation you want to put in (and what amount of minutes your goal includes).

Does anybody know what the animation is called?
  • @cerqe
Animations take a lot of time and the creators deserve to be payed a lot of money

People shouldnt hate on CGI animation cus its not hand drawn, disney is trying hard to bring back this old type of animation, anyways I love any kinds of animation
  • the mouth animation is very obsolete, i once saw a technique where the speech is analyzed and certain vowels correspond to certain mouth shapes. So today its very easy to make the mouth move correctly.

This animated show is called "Mimi and Her Friends: Let's Save Duncan". It was released in 2004 and I have not watched it.

Animation is something you gotta love to be able to do it. How long do you think it takes Pixar to make there movies? A good 4-5 years. I'm a 3D Character Modeler in the making getting ready to graduate this May, and from my experience you HAVE to love this stuff. It takes time, patience, and a lot of stress relievers to get through these projects, but they're a huge accomplishment once they're finished.

Way late to this, but for anyone gawking at how long it takes, that’s the entire process, things move along department by department so you have multiple episodes in production at the same time. That way different roles have uninterrupted work as they start working on their part of an episode, it still takes months to a full year for things made now even with modern technology.
  • the animation program is called softimage 3D. you need silicon graphics which are old computers. these days we have blender which is faster and better graphics.
  • @Resgmix
they mainly have to go through all these processes which will take months, but when they have the final they can just use the voices and everything else back, just change the background
  • very cool! My kids just asked how a cartoon is made, and this was the perfect answer! thanks!
  • @jeremyjurs
I am a full time animator, and let me tell you this, nothing is too far out of reach! Try starting with a soft where nammed blender. Its a program exactly like this one, but simpler
  • @Jasperi
@acesonfire yes your right but in maya they use 3d planes (flat surfaces) and change the textures using the charter rig.
  • @ManuboboAQW
OMAGAWD just go trial Flash, Create a character, made a bunch of layers for his hands legs and all and then just start animating it with movement,, then when the animation is over, just add background and u're done, i know it sounds easy but it's not!

If they needed 1 year for a 24 minute film, that of course i don't know its name. Then how Nickelodeon was able to make the jimmy neutron series. I heard it took one month per episode.
