Amanda lives alone in an off-grid cabin on a remote island in British Columbia. She previously lived on a sailboat in Vancouver for 8 years and then headed North with her boat. She eventually wanted to move onto land because her dog Buttercup was getting older and after searching online, she connected with the owners of an island who were looking for a caretaker to keep an eye on things.

So for the past two years, Amanda has lived solo on the island (aside from a couple of months in the summer when the owners and cabin guests are visiting) and she has taken care of everything from splitting and stacking firewood, maintaining the lawn, running the generators, and a lot more! It's a big job and she does most of her caretaker tasks in the morning and in the afternoons she works remotely as a web designer. She also has a great YouTube channel that she uses to document her liveaboard and off-grid lifestyles.

I have so much admiration for people who are not afraid to step outside the box. Amazing woman, amazing life.
  • @Albert-Mag...
I lived off the grid on my 20 acres with a small creek down the middle in the high mountains of BC Canada. for 20 years. with my wife and ended up with 4 children..The closest neighbour was about 5 miles away, down the valley..It was a wonderful way to live and raise a family..The kids are all in their late 20s and 30s now and Love the outdoors ..I put all their names on the deed and now I live Down near Vancouver BC..I'm 70 years old now and very content with the life I lived...God bless this spirited woman for having the will to live her life the way she loves... Wishing for worldwide peace...and hearts of love.....

She's not lonely because she's in tuned with herself. The person you'll live with the most in your lifetime is yourself. So be your own best friend and you will never be lonely. She's rockin' that island life🙏💞

What a great video. Nice to see our neighbor here. My husband and I live close by on our sailboat and it's been such a pleasure getting to know Amanda. Our boat lifestyle takes us to so many tiny communities and anchourages. It's nice to have a friend like Amanda in these communities when we find ourselves exploring or just getting out of the way of a storm. ❤

Mad that no one told me this is a job at high school career day because this is the dream. Love it for her!

"I miss the smelly, trash filled streets, polluted air and water, lack of space, violence, drugs, crime, cops, noise, disrepect, neighbors, I would encounter in the city." Said no one ever.

The older I get, the less I need others. Solitude is my favorite place. I used to run run run, in the city, now I have just about all I need in a small town. Crazy.

Lonely is a state of mind. She is increasing her life expectancy and mental health wellness.
  • @BabaZaynDiocious
She seems wonderfully detached from material possessions. What an inspiring arc.❤

Good job of not overly romanticizing it. When you heat with wood or coal, it's constant work.
  • I spent 9 months alone in the Montana wilderness, it was the best time of my life.
  • This woman is fearless. It takes a lot of courage to go out on your own.

The independence needed for this is phenomenal. Truly takes someone special.
  • @wvusciguy
The owners of that island are lucky to have found someone for the job. Seems very busy.

Most people Don't live their lives on their own terms. Amanda is NOT that person. She has the strength and will to live how and where she wants and is crushing it. Its amazing to witness true freedom.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
  • Not having to depend on anything or anybody and still be happy shows how strong and golden her spirit is. The world needs more people with her mentality….

I just looked thru a few comments. Some of the first ones I will respond to. Like one person said you’re not off grid if you use a cell phone, another said you’re not off grid if you’re on YouTube. I guess more people should do some research on what off grid is. You live in the middle of nowhere and you supply your own power like wind or solar. You have no public utilities like water, gas, sewer or electric. There are many people that have YouTube channels that live off grid. Like when I camped in the Desert for 12 months in the middle of nowhere. Sure I had my cell phone I used wind and solar for power. I truly love that lifestyle. You are living my dream Amanda.
  • @IslandKate
She's living my dream but I am nowhere near as capable as she is. Much respect ❤️
