It’s astounding and inspiring and frightening to see/hear people who are almost free of defensiveness, who are this open. Look how simultaneously soft and powerful they are! Doesn’t this alone show us how fearful and tense we always are? Thank you, bell and John.

bell hooks is my hero. I remember, as a young woman in 80s London, lost in confusion as to the raciam I was living through, I came across bell hooks in a small bookstore in London. My world changed for ever, I now had a parameter that has never failed me. Ms Bell is fabulous

“Our very presence here together is a form of activism.” That was a powerful statement to me, because the whole time watching the video, I was so glad to be watching a man like john talk like this with someone like bell hooks.

  • I am so happy you knew not to place your work in institutions that have paywalls. I am a librarian who BOLDLY told many (while in graduate school) that all learning institutions should freely share books, art, movies, and artifacts . Rest in Power bell hooks

"Often in my lectures when I use the phrase “imperialist white-supremacist capitalist patriarchy” to describe our nation’s political system, audiences laugh. No one has ever explained why accurately naming this system is funny. The laughter is itself a weapon of patriarchal terrorism." - bell hooks (1952-2021) bell hooks (2004). “The Will to Change: Men, Masculinity, and Love”, p.29, Simon and Schuster
