Also, the only video reactions of theirs that I've seen blocked are the ones from Wacken TV (Kontor New Media). Many, many reactors have done VOB's version of Enter Sandman (from their official channel). They have their first album, Retas, scheduled for release 13 July. I'd strongly suggest seeing them in August, while they are still playing small clubs in the US, where the experience will be much more up-close-and-personal. The ticket prices for most of their shows are $20-25, which seems reasonable these days, particularly for an overseas band!

Thanks Matt & Mooney for coming back to VOB! This song is basically about being a free and independent woman, and not only being able to choose what you want to do with your life (a choice not always available in some countries), but also to be respected for making that choice. Marsya (singer/guitarist): โ€œWe definitely had our doubts in the beginning because it never occurred to us how a protest song could have vocal melodies of a sunnier disposition. However, once we tried it out and had a listen, we ended up loving the end results. It felt like there was another side to VOB that has never been unveiled before until now, with this approach. A fun side, yet still very much VOB.โ€ Lyrics here: P M S (Perempuan Merdeka Seutuhnya) / Completely Free (Independent) Woman Standing in the arms of your mind Is killing all my time Your loud dogma is just a ruse To shackle all the fools Assenting all the filth you throw My inner voice starts to die Trapped in your heart that's hollow My differences, you vilify You're so high.. To even think that heaven was made for you Mock those in sight Demonize me, with hell you threw Chorus : Even though not as virgin as Maria (Mary) I'm not your brain rotten slave Even though not as virgin as Maria I am free, completely free Yeah, I refuse your hell of lust And suddenly the world turns just Oh, how I long for a life of bliss And finally, put my mind at ease I never needed, all of your stupid fascist words What I long, is a peaceful world of colors

And if you pay a bit of attention towards the end of the video it was actually showing a playback of their roots and how they started out. The last pics were of the girls practising in a makeshift studio in their village and also posing in their high school uniforms complete with their hijabs probably when they were still only acne-filled 16! They are simply amazing and a huge inspiration to aspiring young musicians around the world

Song recommendation: Anything from their channel Live performance recommendation: Anything from Rennes France or Pasiwali Taiwan, mostly because of the quality so you can actually hear including the audience My personal fave: Shoebox session. This is more like a jamming session, as if they went straight from school to practice. No make-up, no stage, no costume, no audience. Just them, instruments and raw talent. They sang 3 songs, all originals: School Revolution, Kentut Merdeka and PMS-Indonesian version. The PMS here has different intro than the one you reacted. And Kentut Merdeka is such a roller coaster that nobody will see it coming. Honestly, not many people have reacted to this (such a shame). PMS stands for Perempuanย  Merdeka Seutuhnya [ women who are completely independent ] This song was actually written by Marsya (vocals, guitar), Widi (bass), and Sitti (drums) during high school around 2017 together with their counseling teacher and mentor Abah Erza. โ€œWe write songs fueled by the residual energy we leave after school. At that time, we were very enthusiastic about school activities, so basically we had to drag ourselves to the studio for workshops,โ€ recalls Marsya. PMS is an expression of VOB's antipathy, displeasure, and anger towards their current situation, both lyrically and musically. Despite the conditions they were in, there wasn't a trace of fatigue in the songs they produced. The main inspiration behind the lyrics of "PMS" comes from a series of short stories written by Indonesian writer Feby Indirani entitled "Bukan Perawan Maria" [ Not the Virgin Mary ]. This single focuses on VOB's protest against discriminatory and judgmental behavior that tends to be aimed at women who have different mindsets, perspectives, attitudes, and even desires or dreams compared to the norm. Departing from a region where social norms are heavily influenced by not only religious values โ€‹โ€‹but also patriarchy, the VOB has had its fair share of gender-based discrimination in the past. The absence of post-high school life options for many girls other than marriage will be one of them. The same goes for career options, which are limited for VOBs and their peers due to gender discrimination. "Ironically, it's not just men who would display such behavior, but our fellow women as well!" Marsya commented.

Hi Matt, Mooney, maybe VoB deliberately included subtitles in two languages so that those who sing along can also learn the Indonesian language which is actually very simple in its pronunciation, and yes, I agree, if you listen to this song while driving a car on a hiking road in an inter-city atmosphere, you will sing along imperceptibly because the music seems to invite you to sing along (or maybe it's just my imagination), I like you both

The version most reactors react to of VoB's Enter Sandman is when they went on tour and Performed it at Transmusicale De Rennes, France. No one has ever been given grief yet for the reaction.
