Wow I should have recognized my calling to be a librarian so. much. sooner. Maybe at 5 years old? Before I knew what jobs were? Definitely way before senior year of undergrad, that's to be sure! Interested in the story of how I got to where I am today? This is the video for you!

<3 this video! I feel I am guided to pursue within this field because I stayed going to bookstores growing up and ordering magazines/catalogues. Let alone loving to be on the computer growing up and just having a love for information and media!

So cool that you're a librarian. I looked into it when I was trying to decided on colleges and majors and stuff, and a lot more goes into it than people realize! Awesome story time!
  • Hi! Your videos and a few others on YouTube have been sort of my first contact with going back for an MLIS (I have an MFA currently but work in marketing writing and hate it). I thought libraries because I value them so much as community resources, have spent so much time in them, and really think they provide something crucial to the world. Will Halloway's father from Something Wicked This Way Comes--and Bradbury's infatuation with libraries in general--is something that infected me early in life. I know not to fabulize the job in the sense Bradbury did, but rather to research the reality because, as I already know, grad school can be rough (and costly). And these videos have helped me see more of the reality of the coursework, cost, and job market, plus the actual day to day of the career path. Which is really cool! My question is, if I were to go and sit down with a local librarian to discuss this path, what are some of the crucial questions you would ask in my position? I've never worked in a library setting and I'm not a student so I'm not even sure how to break in at the ground floor, so to speak, to get that experience you discuss. Maybe that's a good place to start? Thanks! I'll look through some of your other videos as well when I get some time.
  • I am also studying to become a librarian. I am at the para professional level at the moment. Thx for sharing your experience love love love it

Hi from Sydney, Australia! New subscriber. I'm thrilled I found your channel! Really enjoyed the video and thanks for sharing your story. I'm currently studying to be a library technician. I think it's fantastic that you run the library (along with someone else) and you get to work in all departments and utilize so many skills. I like how you get to experience time to work with clients as well as working on your own and your colleague. This sounds like something I would really enjoy as I'm introverted too but also like to interact with people 🙂

Hi I just subscribed to you after watching this video and I wanted to say that today I'm applying for my first library job to work my way up as I wander through the college journey. Your journey as a child was very similar to mine which made me know someday I would work within the library system! Carry on and Thank you for Sharing your Journey!

Omg I totally relate to this mindset of being a librarian being a ‘fun thing you get to do’ I’m currently doing my masters in teaching but I am itching to work in a library as soon as I possibly can, get another qualification and become a teacher librarian. Okay back to your video, I’m so excited for your story!

Could you do a video about the job market for librarians? Thanks for this video!
