My Pastor Told Me I “Wasn’t Allowed” To Read my Bible at Home With Friends… (INSANE Story) 😡
This took place at my former church, Life Church, Adelaide (Life Christian Centre, Adelaide).
This is a Pentecostal church on Angas Street, Adelaide, South Australia.

Any "pastor" who tells you not to read the bible is no pastor.

My pastor told my mother that him and his wife wanted to do spiritual work on me over the weekend because I had the devil in me. I was an innocent 16 year old, he picked me up, took me to his house and his wife was not there. It did not take me long to work out I was in danger as he was asking me if I had sex with anyone, I did not know what this was as I was innocent to these things, but I escaped and walked home about 15km in the middle of the night (days before mobile phones). Anyway, I got home, but this same pastor had already returned to my mother and fabricated some story (not that I knew that), but the point being she did not believe me and accused me of lies. Needless to say, that was in the 70s and only a few weeks ago I only returned to God and a church in the last few weeks. I thank Christ that I stayed alive all of this time to turn back to him. Now I understand the distinction between God and religion that I did not know as a kid. Praise God and thank you Jesus for saving me.

That is crazy, he sounds like a controlling narcissist. He’s a false teacher

"But woe unto you Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men, for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in" MATTHEW 23:13

I will read my Bible anywhere I want. At home or sitting on a bench in the park.
  • My father was a pastor and encouraged everyone to have a Bible and if they didn't have one he would provide them with a free one. Whenever he preach3d he would back it up with scripture and where to find it in the Bible so we could take notes and study at home. He also encouraged everyone to search the scriptures to edify themselves. He was a great man and a great teacher. Sadly, he passed away almost four years ago.

Brother, I wasn't saved and born again in a church. It happened at home 12 years ago this fall. I cried out to the Lord when reading in Exodus that Moses and Aaron were to stone to death those committing certain sins. I was commiting those sins in my life and I became terrified of God's wrath and called out to Him in sorrow. He came to me and filled me with His Holy Spirit and I stopped willful sinning from that night on. HalleluYah for God's mercy on sinners like me who fear Him. I haven't a church to attend but I read study and write scriptures by topics daily. I talk to everyone I come in contact with about the Lord and what He did for me. He changed me in one night. I wish I had a true church for fellowship but all churches in my area aren't doers but are just hearers of the word. I'm not worldly in any manner. I just follow Yeshua in His steps carrying my cross with me. God bless you and your ministry more. ❤❤❤ 0:09

I had a youth pastor that encouraged me to read the Bible for myself that way I would know if what I was being taught is biblical. Which is the best advice I had gotten from a youth pastor.
  • my parents went to a church. the pastor asked them if they would be ok to participate to some social events to help the poor. Then he said, "but you will have to keep quiet about God".... immediately they went out of this church and never came back.

This pastor was in his teens when the pastor in his church told him that God didn’t want him to read the Bible for years. He was smart enough to realize something was wrong. The devil is a liar.
  • That is shocking. In the past I was part of several home study groups. I can't remember an instance when the pastor ever disapproved of this. When a pastor stops home study they are worried about losing their tight control. Sounds much like a cult, doesn't it. I trust you got yourself out of there. Hope you have a blessed week.

I bet that crazy pastor is still preaching behind the pulpit. At least you had the good sense to leave. I feel sorry for anyone that had to endure this kind of abuse.
  • My Dad is a Baptist missionary. As i was growing up I was encouraged to read and study the Bible. I am 49 and attend a church that teaches through books of the Bible and what it means. We have small groups weekly where we talk about the message. When you attend a large church it is easy to get lost in the crowd. Smaller groups helps everyone feel connected. Any pastor or teacher that says that you can't read and study the Bible for yourself is not a man chosen by God. I read in the New Testament about Apostle Paul traveling from church to church preaching the Gospel. When he was not at those churches other men who God had chosen taught there. Thank you for sharing the truth.

I recently was traumatised by something that happened in my extended family. I couldn't sleep that night and reached out to the Lord to explain to me what was wrong. Hours later the understanding dropped into my spirit. Domination and control are not love. I know now that these signs are not fruits of the Spirit.

Wolves in sheep's clothing, devil masquerading as an angle of light, false prophets, etc. etc. Gotta be discerning all the time but especially nowadays. Good of you to expose this church. Takes a lot of guts.

In our last church, my husband was basically told to leave our very small community church because he encouraged his Sunday school class to not just blindly believe what anyone else said. He encouraged them to get into God’s word and study scripture for themselves. This pastor did something similar to several other prominent members in the months to follow. He was heard saying, “it’s my way or the highway.” This pastor then lied to the congregation on why we were no longer there. There are far too many Pharisees and false teachers preaching from pulpits these days.

I was at a Bible Study at Church and when I took out my Bible, the Pastor yelled loudly: Don't open that Bible in here! It was a King James Bible.

As a pastor/teacher I frequently encourage listeners to read for themselves and not just take my word for things. The greatest joy I could possibly get is to see someone I've taught learn and understand more than me because they were encouraged to dig into the Word of God for themselves.
