Captain has no clue how shallow it’s out there, and the pristine reef put at risk. We have dove out there and know how precious that coast line is.
  • I saw it and it looked very strange we have never seen a boat like that in these areas

See the sand and mud it kicked up in the aerial photo? It probably did significant damage to the ocean floor, the reef, and any sea life in the area. They probably caused significant environmental damage. We just saw how much a boat owner got fined for their boat damaging the reef and by the looks of it the damage from this will likely be much larger. Cruise ships need to be banned from approaching our shores this close except in designated docking channels.

People that don’t live in Hawaii don’t care. It doesn’t affect them. Sad thing is, it destroyed the wildlife when getting that close to the reef. Fine the company for reef preservation

with gps and computer navigation and the high cost of the ship itself one would think the owning company would have every foot of its course pre-planned and pre-approved by both government and insurance people. a cruise trip should be the blandest most boring path there is 🙂 [and one would think the costa concordia would have really made that a rule for everyone else]

Even when they are much further out it feels very intrusive if you are camping there.

The ship is 1000’ long, it looks at least 3-4000’ off shore. The forced perspective skews people’s perspectives. I am sure the ships data recorder and security video footage will help investigators tell definitely.
  • That's BS!! They should have a huge fine for that. Imagine if they wrecked over there!! They got rid of the ferry boats that actually helped the locals get from island to island easier. So make it make sense.
  • Shows incompetency of the captain and his crew, the cruise line should be given a substantial fine.
  • The ship is clearly more than the required 3,000 feet from the coast.

Cruise ships have no respect in Hilo too!

Na Pali Coast is precious territory, and such a breach is unacceptable. Shame on this ship Captain/Celebrity Cruise line!!

The State of Hawaii Government couldn't get the cruise ship to pay a fine, but I'm sure the SOHG will find a way to make some kind of money off this!
