This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Elena Paravantes explains the history of portrayal of the Mediterranean diet outside of Greece leading up to today and why it is necessary to promote it. By describing the role of Crete in the Mediterranean Diet Eating Model, she discuss the significance and implications (economic & health) of an organized promotion leading to an establishment of a Mediterranean Diet Resource Center.

Παραβάντη μας εξιστορεί την απεικόνιση της Μεσογειακής διατροφής σε χώρες εκτός Ελλάδος και γιατί είναι από τα πιό σημαντικά πράγματα που όπως προτείνει θα έπρεπε να επικεντρωθούμε και να προωθήσουμε. Περιγράφοντας τον ρόλο της Κρήτης στο Μεσογειακό Μοντέλο Διατροφής, καταλήγει στην πρόταση δημιουργίας μιας οργανωμένης δράσης προώθησης της Μεσογειακής Διατροφής και στην πρόταση δημιουργίας ενός Μεσογειακού Κέντρου Διατροφής και έρευνας στην Κρήτη.

Elena Paravantes is a Nutritionist and Writer specializing in the Mediterranean Diet. She has been active in the field of food and nutrition for over 15 years as a clinical nutritionist, consultant and lecturer, both in the U.S. and Greece. She is also the President of the American Overseas Dietetic Association and former delegate for the European Federation of the Association of Dietitians. She has been awarded the Outstanding Dietitian of the Year and Recognized Country Representative of the Year awards.

Η Έλενα Παραβάντη ​​είναι διατροφολόγος και συγγραφέας που ειδικεύεται στην μεσογειακή διατροφή. Δραστηριοποιείται στον τομέα των τροφίμων και της διατροφής εδώ και 15 χρόνια ως κλινικός διατροφολόγος, σύμβουλος και λέκτορας, τόσο στις ΗΠΑ όσο και στην Ελλάδα.
Είναι Πρόεδρος της American Overseas Dietetic Association και πρώην εκπρόσωπος της Ευρωπαϊκής Ομοσπονδίας του Συνδέσμου Διαιτολόγων. Έχει βραβευτεί με τα βραβεία Outstanding Dietitian of the Year and Recognized Country Representative of the Year awards.
