Russians who Fled War Are Going Back: Victory for Putin? | Vantage with Palki Sharma

Russia's war in Ukraine has been going on for more than 2 years. In these last two years, Russia has faced an ever-increasing number of western sanctions. But despite this, Russia's economy has kept on growing. Russia's economy grew by 3.6% in 2023, and growth is expected to outpace that of all advanced economies this year. One of the major reasons for Russia's growth is the return of Russian citizens. Over a million Russians left the country in 2022, but about half of them have returned. They have returned for various reasons, such as their host countries not renewing their residency permits, to outright discrimination. These returning Russians are helping fuel Russia's economy.

Blind discrimination against Russians creates pro-Russia Russians. Congrats!

They left Russia and got slapped around by foreigners and realized there’s no place like your own country

I'm a US citizen living in Russia and I personally had many friends who left Russia in 2022. Many of them tried living in 3-4 other countries and weren't happy with any of them. One thing many people don't realize is that Russia has a very high quality of life with a relatively low cost of living. That's why many Russians who go abroad complain about things like housing and infastructure, becuase they are often expected to pay more money for something much worse than what they could get in Russia, this is just the reality of the situation and one of the many reasons why I still preffer to live in Russia.

I went to Moscow for one day and was astounded by the kindness and hospitality of the Russians. So they went abroad thinking all countries are like Russia and were bitterly disappointed.

What chaos? There has never been chaos in Russia. And GDP is growing because now there is no export of capital abroad. All oligarchs are under sanctions and are investing in production within the country.

I've never liked or voted for Putin, I left Russia in April 2022, right after the beginning of the Special Military Operation in the Ukraine, and 'western countries' made everything for me to change my mind. Now I support Putin and my country. Thank you for opening my eyes.

Mr president Putin is the most cleverest and the most powerful leader of Russia. Best of luck Russia.

Meanwhile, 6 million to 9 million Americans have left the U.S. to live abroad due to unaffordable cost of living.
  • @truthsearch2366
Russia has the lowest tax rate and low cost of living while comparing with Europe or US. Those people who fled, feels that Russia is better than other countries today.

The most important reason is the hypocrisy of so -called democratic country’s.

I support Russians and Putin, for we know how Anglo Saxon countries treat the rest of the world.

This people have now seen the real face of the west and thats why they came back

The return of so many russians who left the country is a very good news. I guess that many of them realise that they had no reason to fear a conscription and that the russian economy did not crumble. Still shame on them.

I understand those who have returned. I used to think that Russia was a bad country and most people had the opinion that the United States and European countries were higher in terms of living standards: people had never been so wrong. The standard of living in Russia is indeed higher than in any city in Europe or the USA, where it is dirty in every city and there are homeless people everywhere. While almost all cities in Russia are clean, there are no homeless people, a bunch of delivery robots, applications where they will bring you any crap from anywhere in the city in 15 minutes, cheap taxis, excellent school education (where people at least learn geography and the history of other countries). In general, I won't whine anymore. In fact, you need to appreciate what you have.

People who fled from Russia in past may forgotten the oddesa incident. On May 2, 2014, heavily-armed fascist militia forces attacked the House of Trade Unions in Odessa. People who got trapped inside were demonstrators and just opposing to the right-wing government in Kiev that had been put in place in a U.S.-orchestrated illigal coup just weeks earlier. Around 1000 Azov fascists were armed with bats, shields, and metal chains and that the people inside the union hall had run there for protection from them. After the attack by the rightists, streets around the trade union headquarters were reportedly stained with the blood of those who had jumped from windows to escape the flames.Women and children were reported to be among those burned alive after initial rounds of shots and Molotov cocktails were thrown into the building by the right-wingers. This cruelty was forbidden by the main stream Media but Putin forgot nothing.

When those who fled Russia realised how bad the rest of the world is, socially, economically, politically, running back to Russia with shame was no longer something they contemplated, it was the only way forward.
