That's the first thing you do? I go in and play game at default settings to see how it performs and THEN go into options to tweak settings.

Do FoV aswell, important for shooters hell even minecraft has a fov slider

I always leave V-sync off in FPS games. I don't stutter much on my system but I hate the laggy aim. Can't wait to get a gsync monitor though.
