    Have you forgotten about his granddad? His family history are pirates, Mr. Krabs has a lot of stories about his past life. Like stories about when he was in the Navy and some war?

    You know what else happened in the 1940s, WWII. Many people lost their jobs during this period due to the strain on the economy the war had. Not only that the US was still recovering from the Great Depression.

    I remember in an episode when SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward and Mr Crabs were roleplaying as comic book characters or something. In the first half of the episode, Mr Krabs mentioned a villain character and said: "They say he's the bad guy, but I think he's just misunderstood." I bet the writers were referring to Mr Krabs.

    Another reason why I believe is because krabs also suffers from Atychiphobia, the fear of failure. Like even when the smallest business plan fails, he freaks out and blubbers like a baby. If my plans go awry, I’d just move on and come up with a better plan.
