The east Pacific is about to get quite busy and then it should be the Atlantic that takes over - just as we enter August.

Will be interesting if a major hurricane strikes the Northeast again this year with the last one being Edna in 1954 as far as I know but, would also be very devastating if it occurred this year as they're not properly ready or prepared for something like that yet. I'm from that region so I know for sure what I'm saying and yes it should be a wake-up call for us here. Sandy in 2012, Teddy in 2020, Henri in 2021, and Lee last year in 2023 should actually have motivated people here to always be aware of these powerful tropical type storms.
  • @4:24, Isaias. I know it wasn't a major hurricane (Cat. 3+), but still. That was only the second tropical cyclone to knock out power to my house (the first being Isabel in 2003), a feat not even Floyd, Irene, or Sandy did.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the last major hurricane strike anywhere along the US east coast was back in 2004 with Jeanne. That then means we're well overdue for the next major hurricane strike along the east coast of the US. Plus, I know for sure that the Northeastern US is well overdue for a general hurricane strike with the last one I heard of in 1991 with Bob. There have been many close calls over the years for the Northeast with hurricane encounters in which were Lee just last year, Henri in 2021, Sandy way back in 2012, and Teddy in 2020 I at least remember. For the US east coast as a whole some close calls in terms of a major hurricane strike were Florence in 2018, Dorian in 2019, Maria and Irma in 2017, Matthew in 2016.
  • It's looking like the Atlantic season will be a bust considering the weak instead of predicted strong La Nina.

This potential system if it's more of a concern down the road for the east coast will be a big test as to whether the streak of no major hurricane landfalls along the US east coast or if the streak of no hurricane landfalls for the Northeastern US will end in the coming days. Those streaks have been standing for years to today so possibly some very interesting times ahead of us could await.
