Prokofiev's String Quartet No.2 "Karbadinian"

The artistic intelligentsia evacuated Moscow when the 1941 Nazi-Soviet non-aggression pact was broken: among them were Prokofiev, Myaskovsky and Chekhov's widow. They settled in the town of Nalchik, some 900 miles south of Moscow, where Prokofiev was instructed to compose a string quartet utilising folk tunes. Hence, its name the "Karbadinian" as it used many Karbardino-Balkar folk tunes.

Recorded in 2022 - the quartet of youngsters won the prestigious Smouha Prize for Chamber Music.
