Here's how I think the Classic Sonic timeline goes canonically: Sonic 1 (combo of 8-bit and 16-bit) Sonic sees Tails getting kidnapped, so he chases after him for Sonic 2 8-Bit (because it takes place on South Island, not West Side Island) Tails goes off on his own, then Sonic goes to Never Lake for Sonic CD (I'm not sure, so sometimes I say it's not canon, sometimes I say it is) Tails wants to help Sonic on his journey, and Sonic is going to West Side Island from Never Lake for Sonic 2 16-Bit Finally, Tails catches Sonic after Sonic 2 16-bit for Sonic 3 & Knuckles
