In this video I will be building a custom metal fuel tank. I will be using my miller matic 252 mig welder. I will be using a circle burner to cut the fill and pump holes. I will also be air testing it after it is completely built.

A little tip for welding around threads when you have a torch available, just turn your torch on using only acetylene on low and and hit the thread with the black smoke, the carbon prevents weld spatter from sticking.

This project was a good example of a good plan and working the plan. Liked the air testing sure beats filling with fuel and finding a spot weeping fuel.

Been on YouTube for the last 45 minutes waiting for this weeks video. Always my favorite part about Fridays

👏👏 great work and great lessons. Be better than I was yesterday is what I strive for. Thank you.

I was an industrial welder for John Deere Hitachi building excavator booms we always started our welds in an uncomfortable position so you could end in a comfortable position when your getting tired
  • That was a slick cut on those holes I gotta get me that fot my torch. It will make it way nicer.
  • @Weld702
First time I used a cutting torch in welding school, my instructor started yelling “Country, your on fire boy” and I was thinking “hell yeah I’m doing good” but nope my damn jacket was starting to flame up 😂

Great job Sir. This job brought back some real old memories! From fabricating 220 bbl oil storage tanks in high school OJT to welding similar tanks like your building to hold hydraulic oil for accumulators to operate BOP’s for the oil field. If my memory serves me right we’d use 5 psi to pressure test. Thanks for sharing this. Oh, man that circle burner looks great along with a clean tip made for great fit on those collars

Ever since watching your first video talking about the standards you hold yourself to and quality of work-striving to make better welds each time, I try to get better and make each weld the best that I can. Thanks!
  • Been wanting to make one of these. Awesome fab skills. Thanks for sharing the insight.

those downhill joints like that are some of my favorites to weld

I was getting frustrated for you just watching those air bubbles at the end. Nice work , preparation is key👌

I actually screen recorded you saying "creating a habit of patience and taking time/money out of the equation and focusing on the standards you set for yourself" and will put it in a folder of other things like that for when i get disheartened or wanting to hurry 😎

Mmm hmmm. U said that right at 5.40 I impressed myself. Making sure tip cleaned b4 cuts will help for sure
  • Great job Austin, all welded and pressure tested and it is ready to be cleaned and painted. Thanks for sharing with us, we enjoy your great videos and all the projects you share with us . Keep em coming. Fred.

Nice work, Austin. I'm glad you checked on the test pressure. I know from experience that it doesn't take a lot to blow up a tank. Apparently, 15 PSI will do the trick.
  • @T2welds
Love the videos Austin, keeps me motivated

Used to make hydraulic and fuel tanks using very similar methods, I would use a clamshell type of bend where only 3 sides on each side needed welding. The flat bar on top is a nice feature.
  • Just remember Krusty Enterprises. "It's not just good. It's good enough!" LOL. (The difference between a welding job and repeat clients.)
