Why You Shouldn't Compete with Big Box Garden Centers

Published 2024-03-28
Selling plant starts early in the season presents an excellent opportunity for farms to boost their income. However, small farmers often encounter a significant hurdle: the demand for their transplants to match the competitive pricing of big-box stores.

In this video, Nick provides insights into understanding the true nature of this competition and offers practical strategies for farmers to differentiate themselves. By focusing on quality, storytelling, and after-sale support, farmers can justify higher prices and build a loyal customer base.

How we’ve done this in the past is we sell in your pots but add a $1 to the price. So we sell for $5 a start but if they would bring the pot ( BSF) back to us at market I would pay them $1. So I got what is prices here and got some pots back if not it got paid for. I also explained the importance of one time plastics and that they could reuse this for years.
