A jury found Euclid Police Officer Michael Amiott guilty on one count of assault and one count of interfering with civil rights in his excessive force trial on Friday. Amiott was found not guilty on a second assault count.

Sentencing will take place at a later date.

The trial of Amiott continued on Friday for its fifth day. After closing arguments took place, the judge gave instructions to the jury prior to them beginning deliberations. The verdict was reached in a matter of hours.

Amiott was charged in connection with a violent traffic stop in August of 2017. Cell phone video showed the officer repeatedly punching Richard Hubbard after the latter was pulled over for an unspecified moving violation.

Cops have gone so long without being held accountable it’s a beautiful thing to hear “guilty”.

Man, how "safe" would you feel as a juror handing out that verdict while a room loaded with cops were staring at you.
  • I'm glad those other officers were there to witness justice and be reminded that the trust they are given, is fragile and revocable

May these thugs continue to be held accountable.
  • The disappointed look on the faces of every cop in that galley is incredibly satisfying. This is a win for the people.

Scary part is... we ALL know at least one cop exactly like him. If you are a cop... you know many. And may be exactly like him yourself.
  • It's about time these fools are being held accountable for their actions.
  • The look on that defendants face was priceless. I don't think he has ever been held accountable for anything before.
  • It’s good to see so many other officers in the courtroom. Hopefully they have learned they can’t get away with just anything as they have gotten use to in the past. Also, the fact they are there shows they are aware this is not ok and can’t use the excuse of “not knowing” any longer.
  • I really liked the way this judge treated the jury and commended them for their service.

Those cops in the crowd LOOKED SHOOK! It feels great to see police held accountable
  • The thin blue line always sticks together. What a piece of crap of a cop! The other cops in the gallery looks surprised he was found guilty. That’s what makes me feel so sick of these tyrants. Finally these guys are starting to be held accountable for their actions. Videos don’t lie folks.

The look on his face as the jury comes in says it all

Violating someone’s civil rights should be a felony. Hard stop.
  • Just imagine of how many beatings he got away with he just got caught this time
  • When he was chocking that poor guy he fully expected they'd be no consequences. He and his fellow cops, who were there to support him, must be in shock!
  • Good job jurors, you guys listened to all testimony and seen the bodycam video and gave a good verdict.
