Adrian Newey's exit from Red Bull in F1 is now official, with the team announcing he will leave early in 2025. Until then, Newey will step back from F1 design work, focusing on finishing the RB17 hypercar project he has led, and attending selected F1 races over the rest of 2024 to assist the team at trackside.
Scott Mitchell-Malm and Edd Straw join Glenn Freeman to discuss how a nearly two-decade relationship that has resulted in so many world championships could reach a point of no-return.

Quite possibly the best Silly Season in the history of F1

I’d actually love to see him help turn Williams back into a more competitive team now that you’ve mentioned it.

Adrian is 65, and has become the most respected f1 designer in history. You can’t really be surprised that he’s ready to step back from f1

Literally all F1 fans know "Newey is the master of aero, and Newey cars win championships" and he thinks he's not getting the recognition he deserves?

The only thing Adrian Newey hasn’t done is design a car for Ferrari. If that isn’t something he wants anymore then he has every right to leave F1 as the most respected, successful and brilliant F1 designer there has ever been.

Newey going to ferrari would be insane, the tifosi would create a golden status of both vasseur and newey and hamilton will have made another perfect driver move.

Forget the drivers, Newey is singlehandedly the most important person of the last 30 years. Every team he's joined, within a few years won everything. And every team he's left, have slowly stopped down the grid as his leftover ideas dried up. Williams carried on fighting for championships in the short term but effectively slipped further and further back until they were propping up the grid. McLaren exact same situation. So I suspect, Red Bull will continue to fight on for the next few years but will drop off as well, well they go as far back as Williams and McLaren have on the grid, seems unlikely but also the idea that they would drop that far seemed unlikely at the time as well.

Bold of us all to assume he just won't boat away to some island or to wherever Mazepin hangs nowadays

Its interesting that Newey feels he isn't getting the credit. All I have ever heard was "the genius of Newey" and how this new generation of redbull has been so dominate because of Newey's genius. I mean, he's a legend. And everyone talks about him as such. So its very strange to hear that.

His other regret was not working with Alonzo. He was already part of the Aston Martin Valkerie project. Why not Aston Martin proper but not f1. WEC, hypercaar where there's so much more creativity going on with that rules set. Plus he can be part of the road car project. Unlike Ferrari he would be in England. Also, I don't think any gardening leave would be required since it is a different series. But Ferrari would be cool too.

Imagine Newey ending up in Moto gp with the new aero co concepts which have been taking over the sport .... Just imagine Newey with Honda or Yamaha designing their new bikes 🔥🔥🔥🔥

On the flip side at least the Red Bull engineers will finally get some credit now
  • @Lunarr0ck
He gave Redbull 7(8 after Max sweeps this season) WDCs, what more could the man possibly give to the team. Newey has been the most important man in F1 in the last 30 years.

Does anyone else find the audio too low? Ads in between video are much louder causing me to adjust volume again and again...

Here is a strong reason why we are likely to see Newey at Ferrari: - David Sanchez was the technical director at ferrari and he left to go to McLaren. He recently departed from McLaren stating his role was too divided and wanted more control over the technical development of the car. - Newey has expressed opinions that he felt he hasn't received enough credit working at redbull and in recent years redbull has adopted the 3-pillar-leadership-approach. - Ferrari still allows their technical director much more control of the cars development than most other teams. - Newey has expressed a desire to work with Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari in the past. If Newey does not join Ferrari in 2026, then he must know when the world is ending.

If he was 2 or 3 years older I could see him walking off into the sunset. However, he now has a chance to complete 2 of his ambitions which is to work with Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton and given the circumstances, he could achieve both entirely on his terms. I just dont see him walking away from that.
