CONAN Highlight: Nathan doesn’t think he’s a very good talk show guest, so he brought Academy Award-winning actress Susan Sarandon in case Conan wants to interview her instead.

Bless Susan’s heart for agreeing to this bit.
  • @9thstreet
The only reason this went so well is before his appearance Nathan built an entire replica of the Burbank studio where Conan's show is filmed and hired actors to portray Conan, Andy, all the rest of the staff, and Susan, so he could carefully rehearse every potential outcome of his appearance. Unfortunately the one thing he did not anticipate was Conan's producer airing the backup clip by mistake and, not having a roadmap drawn out for that scenario, he was unable to recover.

Nathan talks like a guy who went to one of Canada’s top business schools and got really good grades
  • @SwitcherooU
Boy, he really let that "guard cat" bit marinate. He has such a good feel for dialing up the discomfort.
  • @boo_wl
her little supportive nods are so cute
  • @decoydamsel
That's his emotional support Susan Sarandon.
  • @partlyironic
This is...art. Obviously Nathan and Conan are brilliant here but can we all appreciate Susan Sarandon for still managing to amp up the comedy just by sitting there and silently nodding?

"This is an actress named Susan Sarandon"
  • @Faro0ky
His story was so bad, The whole time i was just looking at susan hoping she would rescue us. This worked. Nathan is a genius.

All three of them play their part so well here. Nathan talking about some boring story as if it's hilarious, Conan looking at him in contempt, and Susan just smiling and being Susan. It's comedy gold.
  • @stevemurch3245
This is one of the most creative bits on any talk show. A whole send-up of the talk-show genre. Even funnier the second time. Amazing for Susan to have done this so perfectly.

    The Picasso of awkward.
  • @NitroRad
Nathan is the most unique and smartest comedians I've ever seen. Not even just on his show, but every appearance he's ever made has been this carefully orchestrated, hilarious bit.

"the plan: convince the audience that I'm an entertaining guest by bringing susan sarandon"
  • This is consistent with one of the recurring themes on Nathan For You. How Nathan goes to these extreme lengths and machinations to solve a problem that's so much smaller than the lengths and machinations.
  • @UndrSkorMusic
This was a really nice original joke wholesome bit... don't see a lot of that anymore... bless this clip, and bless Susan Sarandon.
  • Nathan's ability to undermine his own interview with a bigger celebrity and then stick to the character is amazing.
  • @LdGunn
Even though Conan is clearly in on the bit, he acts his part out so well! When Nathan talks about his cats, Conan's facial expression and demeanor are flawless, depicting a complex cocktail of emotions. I love every second of this video.
