I remember that one. He was on airshows all over europe. Had a unique sound.

Saw this Spit in the early 2000's and honestly, I've never seen a Spit so fast. She's now back to a single, 5-blade prop.

I was there at Flying Legends in 2005 when this was displaying there. Absolutely incredible noise from the engine and one you just want to hear forever ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I recall an incident back in the day, when the transfer gear failed, and the a/c concerned would just about fly on just the one prop, with the dead one sucking away much of the power. At least after that it was known that it COULD fly with such a catastrophic failure.

I wish they made a lot of this version of the spits, with its dual counter rotating props, it would have run circles on the Germans best aircraft they have during WW2.

The spitfire is such an interesting aircraft! I am mesmerized every time I look at it 😄

Wowww -- that thing is an absolute monster running on those upgrades.

I'm guessing the Shackleton engine and prop set up has gone to one of the Seafire 46 projects now.

The 2450hp translates into nearly 6000Nm of torque (at 2600 rpm) 😵

vive la france !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! merci christophe !!!! le plus beau spit pour moi !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks WingsTV Channel !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I was surprised to see a standard engine use a contra rotating prop. Normally thats reserved for turbo prop
  • Let's hope the airframe of the plane can resist to the additional stress of the engine.
