    Here's an idea: use a "YES" and "NO" button for witnesses to answer questions. If more story is requested by the panel, the microphone will be activated for that question then shut off again.
    That should expedite questioning without the long word salad these people go through; it allows better control of the time allotted for questioning and allows more panelists to ask questions.
