A dry curl by curl cut or a dry curly haircut is all the rage in the curly community, but is it the only way to curly hair? What IS the best technique to cut curly hair? Well, it all depends on your preferences and needs which we go over in this video. That, plus I will share and demonstrate the Pros and Cons of getting a curly dry cut VS cutting curly hair when straight or wet, right before your eyes as I compare the two, side by side. The camera doesn't lie and this entire video is based on my personal experiences working as a professional hairstylist behind the chair! Thanks for tuning in, I hope it helps you decide what type of haircut you want to get! ”I can’t do the splits but my hair can do the splits” I never choked so hard😂😂
  • "Throw the whole head away!" I have had this feeling after some real bad cuts when I was younger :P hahaha

I'm not that picky about how my hair is cut, but the styling. I mean, can ANYONE make my hair look decent after a cut besides me? No matter who cuts it or how, I have to go home and either refresh (if I'm lucky) or full-on wet it all down and restyle completely. Also, thank you for putting away the idea that only a dry cut will work for curly hair. That is another one of those curly girl myths that keeps getting perpetuated.

I am a hairdresser also. I haven't done it professionally in a few years though. I can't find anyone to cut my hair right and it doesn't ever feel even when I do it. I need more layers, like a round layer cut, but everyone just wants to cut my hair in long layers. You should do more videos on haircuts, on curly hair or mannequins that we could learn from. That would be sooooo cool!!!!
  • From my experience, when I get a dry cut, I cannot straighten my curly hair without it looking like a bad haircut. However, when I get a haircut after my hair has been straightened, my curls look great when I style them naturally, and I can straighten my hair knowing that my layers and bangs do not look so choppy.
  • I wanna know why the auto captions translated “ya mane girl Mell” to “gay mean girl mel” 😂😂😂😂
  • @elineeide9690
My stylist cuts my hair while it is straightened and i love the way my curls look after! My curls bounced back beautyfully!!

Hey Mell, for those of us who are unable to get to the salon due to the pandemic (they have closed all hair salons where I live), it would be great to have a basic cutting guide for non-professionals who need a hair cut, but can't get one. :(
  • I love that your videos are so nonbiased. People are usually so headstrong in their own ways that they never show you the benefits of the other ways as well. So thank you!! 😆

Haters: Well Mell... Kanhair West: yo Imma let you finish but Manes By Mell has one of the best hair cut tutorials of all time.
  • Aww I really love your darker roots, I think the contrast with your hair and skin looks so good! But it's your hair so do you..
  • @RPGMelodySage
I've learned more about my curly hair with your videos than anywhere else. I can already see a difference in the way they look and learning to love them. Thank you. You and sister brighten my day with your videos.
  • @juliebruce1114
I just came back from getting my hair cut dry (on straightened hair) for the first time. She did an AMAZING job! Thanks for all your info!!
  • SO EXCITED! I'm excited every Texture Tuesday, but this is a video I really need (didn't realize how much I needed it). Hope you and your family are doing well
  • @TheMadisonZone
I learned how to diffuse, style and all that to my curly hair and been loving my hair. I also use a bonnet so my hair stays beautiful. You have helped me. Because I would of never known somethings without you or my aunt who works at a hair salon.
  • After quarantine I DEFO need a ahircut. I appreciate that you're a prof as well as texture-conscious! Brad mondo needs to react to you, and I need to get less afraid of these scissors lol!
  • @MoushZN
I'm actually going for a trim next Friday and I always feel guilty about straightening my hair to cut it since I always keep my hair curly now. This has really helped me. Thank you Mel.
  • Thank you for making this video. I’ve had curly cuts, dry straight hair cuts and wet cuts. It was nice to see the blatant difference side by side 😉.
