Can You Keep a Willow Tree as a Bonsai?

Published 2022-06-09
One question I seem to always get asked, besides what is your favorite tree, is can you make a Willow tree into a bonsai? To which I always answer, Magnolia and yes! Now this is one bonsai specimen that requires a lot of energy, time and know-how to get and keep this tree in a smaller form. If you've ever wondered if it was possible or even are considering growing one or even if you already have one be sure to watch the entire video so you know what all it takes to keep a Willow tree happy and healthy in a container! So it’s possible to keep the willows in big pots for my store front and trim them. 😮
  • I was given a weeping willow tree that has been growing in a pot definitely needs to be repotted into a bigger pot any ideas and suggestions the tree is self I want to say is approximately Maybe 6 or 7 yrs old

Ive found salix especially the corkscrew types make perfect patio trees....potted for life type trees. Their so simple and free take a cutting of whatever size in late winter stick it in a pot that once rooted will hold it upright. Use a pot with no drainage or keep it water logged at first. I use a metal coal bucket or ice bucket so i can add drainage later and halfway up the side of pot to save on summer watering. My golden weeping willow uprooted a few weeks back so ive taken cuttings some are quite large to see how good of a patio tree it will make......considering it was a terrible tree for the yard. Salix alba tristis is a terrible tree do not plant it!!!!!!
  • You seem like a nice guy, but I'm really annoyed that you spent 15 minutes talking before you bothered to get toi repotting. But thanks for the few ttps i finally got.
