Three Black women: ‘Mocked with monkey chants, called slaves’ and then prosecuted for ‘self-defence’

In the last week rioters, right wing conspiracy theorists and Reform MPs have been pushing a claim that police are treating white people more harshly than people from ethnic minorities.

This has been angrily denied by police chiefs and the Prime Minister as absolute nonsense. And people from minorities have been pointing at the evidence that if anything, the criminal justice system has been unfair towards them.

Take the experience of three Black women who were accused of assaulting a white woman at a London underground station last year. They said they'd in fact been defending themselves after a violent racist attack. And eventually the case against them was suddenly dropped just as the trial was about to start.

They've spoken for the first time about the experience to us.

My kid has been bullied at school since he started by a gang of kids. He knows what happens if he fights back. The school wont' touch the situation, unless it's my son who says something back.

This reminds me of when male abusers try to claim abuse when the women they are mistreating stand up for themselves. Thank goodness they have each other and were together, makes it harder to gaslight.

you dont choose how you are born... why did that lady hurt them just because they have different skin colour, it hurts so much...

Sorry to say. Racists will never ceased to exist. We need to always stand up for ourselves and never let bullying continue. Stop it at the first instance of bullying.

So off duty officers will not be prosecuted if something goes wrong while they intervene?
  • @KingMob.
Shocking. This is really really scary. This is reminiscent of the darker days of Policing in the UK.

"This type of reporting only hurts these people if they are truly the victims." How can the Court of Public Opinion or a Court of Law judge what actually occurred if we only see and hear how one side presents their version of the experience? This is called bias by omission. It is dishonest or disreputable reporting. "Once the whole story does come out, the fact that you tried to hide or omit portions of the event publicly to your viewers will seem sketchy."

It’s people’s bias that perpetuates institutional racism and it’s present in many elements of society. But what we don’t need is people claiming there’s no racism because they haven’t experienced it. That’s a smack in the face who have experienced racism and it makes feel victimised all over again. We should be listening and empathising with victims and avoid making useless blanket statements like “There is no racism here”. Why would a victim want to be told that what they’re experiencing is not happening? I mean that doesn’t even make sense.

The cowardly KCIII has not offered any condolences to the victims and their families as well as security for Prince Harry.

Certain politicians & media outlets have a lot to answer for. They’ve literally been pushing for this return of the ‘80s BNP & National Front mindset. It’s been disgusting to watch over the last decade+.

It’s like the U.K racism of the 70s/‘80s is back in full effect & all after we had come so far. Talk about a sad state of affairs.
  • This is utterly abhorrent, disgusting and shameful. There will always be differences between white and black or ethnic minorities but that doesn’t mean it gives anyone carte Blanche to behave in such a despicable manner. It is somewhat disheartening that an off-duty police officer didn’t intervene at an earlier stage. I’m not suggesting that officer should be reprimanded as without their testimony and account of the events it’s difficult to know what their perception of the events were. Instead of cohesion, understanding and finding common grounds there will sadly be myopic people who will never change and that frustratingly also applies to the Police and the UK justice system.

Why you using two tier policing as a racist whip when actually its about how the police handle racist protestors. Lets not convolute issues. If a cop is being racist, he/she is veing racist - thats not two tier policing!
  • You're automatically believing them. The case against them being dropped is because of insufficient evidence; it's not proof of them being innocent.

The ambulance workers and hospital personnel in Gloucester disappointed because I'm black when I was attacked by a British guy and subsequently crushed down by on coming vehicle. Till today, no compensation after more than 18 months.
