Hi friends!! This was such a fun dumpster diving day – I scored some great items like brand new cat food, home decor, and the antique trunk!!! I know it's very beat up, but how could I not be in love with it!!

This is why I love trash picking – there is always something fun and excited to discover in other people's trash haha! :D I would love your help decided what to do about the antique chest being all locked up! I'm torn on if I should break into it or just sell it as is.. but I would hate to not know what treasures may be inside!

Thank you so much for watching! I hope you have an awesome weekend and i'll see you in the next video!

  • It looks like maybe the screwdriver your using is to thick, try a different size maybe that will work, I'm so curious to see what's inside 😁

I found an old sewing machine in a wood cabinet that was locked so I went to an antique store to see if they had any keys that we could try. They did have a key and we got it open.

How many people were thinking "Use some WD40 and a thinner screw driver."
  • Hi Kelly! I went on my first dumpster diving adventure. I mustarded up the courage to just do it at a apartment complex that’s ran by a university. And I scored big time! Thanks for being a motivation!

King size bed skirt: If spray paint doesn't come out; then dye the skirt a dark color.

I have ptsd so I don’t leave the house much and I love dumpster diving vicariously through you!!! I find we are so much alike ! Love you!
  • Alex to the rescue like the super gnome he is! The trunk opens like a book, on its end. Like others have said, get a key online to open it. Won't cost as much as a locksmith. And look up youtubes of how to get red paint off everything. Its a common diving issue so many people have shared their secrets to removing it. Good luck my friend!

Aww that’s so nice of him to offer to help you!
  • Awesome find!! Would be a cool coffee table, you could purchase a piece of glass for the top. As the other commenters have posted, you should be able to find a universal key online. DEFINITELY DO NOT BREAK IT OPEN!! JMO

I have never wanted to see inside of a chest so badly

Definitely take it to a locksmith, you are damaging the lock

glad to see Pilgrim smiling again- his foot must be better.
  • I use to work for Complete security in Dallas and TJ (whose last name I can’t remember) lived in your area and I know he would open that for you as a favor for LE and Marsha Nunley. He is a great person. When I think of his last name I will send it to you. My husband is a locksmith but it would be a long commute because we live in KY now. I’ll be back in touch.

I have one that my family brought from Wales several generations ago. There are tutorials on how to restore these. Such a cool find for you!

You seemed to only be turning right. Have you tried left...you know “right tightly lefty loosie”? Other than that, I’d take a photo of the lock and try an antique dealer who probably has a ton of skeleton keys. Good luck! Let us know!
  • You have a sweet husband. I would spray the lock on the trunk with WD40 and try again to open.

It's a steamer trunk. They would hang their clothes in them almost like a wardrobe they also sometimes have drawers in them. Looks like you actually have the hangers which is a big deal. I have one and I love it I use it to keep supplies in hang up tablecloths and things where the clothes used to go. Well done
  • Greatest thing ive used to remove the paint without eating the plastic or fabric up is rubbing alcohol. Just put some on, scrub with a toothbrush. Repeat until removed. Then wash or rinse and youre done.
