Thank you for that bro! The comment you left brought me to your channel. That office you're sitting in looks A LOT nicer than any plain prison program office, and i'm sure you'll agree, lol. I'll give you and your channel a shout out on this morning's video and send people your way. Keep spreading that positive message. Wishing you nothing but the upmost best in all your endeavors.

Great topic! I retired two years ago after 22 years in the department. My first pinta was at SVSP in 2000. I was definitely an eye opener and a cold turkey training experience for me but that was where I learned the most important aspects of being a good officer. I believe my 8 years in the Marine Corps played a huge role on how I functioned in a level 4 environment and how I carried myself around inmates. I knew how important it was to be able to communicate with inmate and be relatable in various subjects. I made mistakes and by no means was I perfect but the inmates knew I wasn't with the bullshit. You can be by the book as a CO as long as your consistent and do your job but that also comes with unnecessary baggage. I chose a more back and forth style of leadership and got things done without the useless stress.

Hahaha the cell phone story. I believe the officers left it behind.
  • After 27 years of being a guard at PBSP, you can't be inside the head of a guard any more than we can be in yours. Guards have to deal with a lot of stuff you don't see.....just like you. In a perfect world, we would all be level headed and everybody deal with each other with respect. Prison is far from a perfect world. Just like convicts deal with their own, we do also. But, there are times when both sides have to put the hammer down. We've all got jobs to do. Convict and guard.
