Urban Arrow Family Cargo E-Bike Review

Published 2023-12-14
As I reflect back on the past nine months that we've owned the Urban Arrow Family, I can confidently say that it has been a great addition to how our family gets around Seattle area.

I have ridden over 750 miles on this cargo e-bike and in this video I will walk you through what I like about it and where it falls short.

  • Nice to see these Dutch build cargo bikes on the other side of the pond. Greetings from the Netherlands.

Test rode the bike while visiting NYC over the summer; its a dream of a bike even for someone who doesnt have kids such as myself but I completely agree on the handebars. It felt way too upright for me and i immediately thought about how I would put drop bars on it 😅 To each their own, but I like leaning forward at least a little bit on a bike.
  • Great review! It took me a while to wrap my head around this point, but if a couple decided to go down to one car, a very expensive e-cargo bike makes a lot of sense. People have to look at a bike like this as a substitution for a 2nd car. A few rides on my e-bike flipped my thinking. E-cargo bikes don't look "expensive" anymore.

Great video! I ordered my urban arrow a few weeks ago to substitute our second car. I am really looking forward to finally receive it.
  • Dude, you can change those bars and grips. It was something I changed very early while riding a RadCity. The swoop bars were so uncomfortable on my wrists. It is meant to be a cruiser bar, but I wouldn't enjoy cruising like that. I've got a slight rise and slight sweep; it is much better. Very comfortable.
  • This was a great review. I just wish they weren’t so much money. I would love to have one to take my special needs out and about on a bike.

There are alternative gearing combinations for Gates belt drives, just like chain drives. The belt drive sprockets are rated by tooth count, just like chain drive sprockets. Sounds like you need to trade down by a tooth or 3 in the front (& up just as many in the rear) to gain more hill climbing power, just like you would with a chain drive.

2 thousand for the dual battery setup is... well it's 4x the price listed on their website.

They seem expensive, but then after only two years, way cheaper than car expenses!

I bet the motor works way better on this bike, than on most ebikes that only use the motor for top speed, not assistance...
  • A belt drive! If using an ordinary chain, you are able to use chain gears, which has much less friction than an internal gear system! I have had one bike using a belt, and I didn't like it! Eventually try a Danish built "Christiania Bike"? It is not as smooth looking, but it functions! Finn. Denmark

How long was the learning curve to steering? I've test cycled a friend's UA but I couldn't get used to the turning.

$2-3k for the dual battery upgrade is indefensible and asinine. A 100 kWh Tesla battery is around $20k. That e-bike upgrade would be 1 kWh at the absolute most.

$8000 for this? Might as well get a cheap small car around $10,000 or used car for $2500.

No front suspension for that price? My God, why do you support such insane greed? I would never buy it.
