Welcome back for another Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire video. In this video, I talk about what George R.R. Martin said during his interview, when he was asked, "will he let anyone else write in his A Song of Ice and Fire universe?" This is an interesting subject because fans have always wondered what will happen if George R.R. Martin isn't able to finish writing his books himself. As you all know, George R.R. Martin has been writing the Winds of Winter for roughly 13-15 years. He still hasn't announced an official release date for the Winds of Winter. This makes many of us wonder if he'll ever finish the Winds of Winter, or A Dream of Spring... Will he allow anyone else to finish his story for him? Can he protect his writing forever? George R.R. Martin doesn't seem to think so. He believes someone will eventually start writing their own stories in his universe. What will this mean for A Song of Ice and Fire if he doesn't finish it on his own?

When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east, when the mountains blow like leaves in the wind, George will finish ASOIAF

It's kind of poetic that Spring will only be a dream, and not something we'll ever read.
  • @RedBullxMD
He was talking about finishing WoW in 2015 with a hard deadline. The fact that almost 10 years later he is nowhere near completion of that same book should tell everyone he is never going to finish ADOS.

I’d pay full book price for a one page outline of how he envisions the ending.
  • @andrewalderman
The Sanderson joke is funny because Sanderson is the polar opposite of GRRM in his ability to meet deadlines, and because despite Sanderson's skill, he is not a good fit for the world or tone of ASOIAF.

"Sauron strikes back" Amazon Prime : "WRITE THAT DOWN, WRITE THAT DOWN!"

I feel like the shitshow that was the last few seasons of GoT affected him more than he lets on. D&D really mucked his story up. Honestly I feel bad for the bloke.

9:11 Brandan Sanderson has already said a couple different times that even if offered he wouldn't do it since Asoif is so different from what he normally writes

I think a story left unfinished is a tragic thing. Were I in his sotuation, I'd not only feel as though I owe the audience, but my legacy and the characters themselves. If there is a person he trusts to execute the rest of the story with all of what he has written and outlined, then I hope somebody does finish it if he doesn't.

I foolishly began reading these books back in 1998 never imagining that I’d still be waiting on the author to complete the series 26 years later. I’ve been to war in two countries, recovered from wounds, completed my masters degree, gotten married, fathered four children and progressed in my career in those years whilst this man just stopped caring about the thing which propelled him to fame.

When I got to Feast and realized that he started 1000 new storylines in the 4th book, I realized we will never have a Dream of Spring and will be very lucky to ever get Winds.

i think he's writing winds of winter at the same time as dream of spring, or at least making sure that everything in winds will properly transition into dream. i know he's a "gardener" writer but he definitely knows how he wants it to end and is just trying to make sure all the plants and vines are all properly trellised and pruned in just the right way. i'im sure he's also come across some complexities he is working around which is slowing him down, like the "merenese knot" in essos
  • Don't be surprised if George tries to do a Ready Player One style thing when he dies
  • @boxinsteadyeddie
Rings of Power was basically Sauron Strikes Back in prequel form lol
  • Brandon Sanderson already said he won't do Game of Thrones, and his style doesn't really match GRRM's gritty realism - I'd suggest Andrej Sapkowski if he'd be willing, his style matches GRRM's the closest of anyone I've read the last 20 years or so...and he's got the street cred, having written the Witcher.

Maybe he's been secretly writing the last two books the last 13 years and is planning some crazy dual release maybe he holding them till he dies as the ultimate troll exercise?
