I worked at a US Porsche dealer when the first 996 turbo dropped in 2000. Porsche reps came into the office and demanded to see the Purchase and Sale Agreement. They would’ve pulled the franchise if it was sold over list, or we refused to show the paperwork. The times they are a changing….

I walked into a Porsche dealer in California looking to order just 911S. Salesman didn't even get up from behind the desk and started a conversation with "you know there is a markup." I left without a word. I can afford to buy a new 911, but I will never pay markup on anything.

I honestly had no idea that you can't walk into a dealership and buy the car of your choice
  • @H.A.R.D.I.K
I understand from dealer perspective, but when you spend 2+ million a year and still cant buy the car you want sounds like a absolute scam.

I had the SAME THING when i went to buy a Ford Fiesta! I had to buy 2 Coffees before he sold me the car!!Shocking.🤣

A few years ago I went to a Porsche dealership to configure a Targa. The salesman didn't seem at all interested in making a sale and couldn't even be bothered to find out when a slot would be available. I left and didn't come back. Watching videos like this really makes me re-evaluate my attitude towards this brand. Essentially appreciate the engineering and stay well clear of corporate which to me means 2nd hand market only. But I appreciate the pickle people wanting and being able to afford a GT3 find themselves in. It's not good for the brand image if they have to shove cars down people's throats while dangling a carrot in front of their eyes.

I drive 2007 honda , why did I suddenly feel worried about the process of getting GT3 RS ? 😅 Enough YouTube for today
  • @shonen84
The Swiss luxury watch brands - especially Rolex - have done this for years…it’s eerily similar. Thanks Mark for your journalism!

It actually took me almost two thirds of the way through this video to realise that you made this whole video just to show Jayne to convince her that paying over list was the best thing to do. Well played Mark, well played sir...

This is why I love BMW, they make insane performance vehicles and you can walk right on in and spec out whatever you want, pay for it and pick it up in a few months. My M8 comp has been nothing but bliss.
  • @Cuzzazbuzz
So avoid Porsche. Noted. Time will be a cruel mistress.
  • @driveri1435
I love cars my whole life. I hate the industry and 99% of the people in it. Thank you Mark.
  • Turns out car dealerships aren't only cheesing the average Joe but also the rich lol
  • @Clingclongclay
7:20 she is a fantastic sales person and lays out the key points of buying the trade in over building a portfolio in a way that attracts closing the deal so fast. I would have said "Okay you got me" right there.
  • @Quanters
I love this series and it’s been a real eye opener. Keep it coming and well done Mark
  • @cyrusjones8326
Moral of the story; dealerships are trash and we would all be better off without them. I’ve known this for years being a car enthusiast.
  • @AndreiJikh
Customers shouldn't have to grovel and beg by paying over MSPR. Consumers have power to vote with their dollars and we can put an end to these practices. Thanks for the video!
  • @Mtsiagbe
This is a brilliant series btw, we all know it happens. Glad someone is filming it.
  • So thats why so many people were buying Macans and Cayannes. You could buy it through your business, take the accelerated depreciation on your books and then sell it a year later. All the while building your "Portfolio"
