Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney's friendship was built on musical collaboration, but was permanently soured after Jackson purchased the ATV/Beatles catalog in 1985. Over the coming years, the two fought and publicly attacked each other due to their differences on how the business should have been run.

Here is Paul McCartney in his own words, addressing the long and drawn out conflict he had with the King of Pop.

“And I say, yeah, sure, it’s business. It’s also friendship. It’s also morals.” A real human being right there, Sir Paul.

The fact that he had the chance to buy them, and he didn't because they were Lennon-McCartney songs and not just McCartney songs just says a lot about how great the man is
  • @togelz
The fact he told the same story for almost 4 decades consistently and not to mention tells it in the most respectable way possible, shows you the integrity that Paul has

Its hard to beleive how this bloke has lived through every great decade of music and obviously the best artists He really is a legend among men
  • @LOL-cringe
People may not realize that this is how Paul acts when he is angry. Calmly joking around.

Quite the work putting all these interviews into one coherent story. Awesome work!

Using songs commercially "It devalues the song..." that's a real/true artist! We love you Paul

Always frank. Always candid. Always classy. Always respectful. McCartney remains an incredible human
  • Michael was born into this industry he knew it inside out back to front, he was not only genius on stage but also SUPER GENIUS behind the scenes

2:40 His Michael Jackson voice impersonation is spot on. Made this story so much funnier 😭
  • @joep4224
His comments are impressively consistent over a long period of time.

"Now, Michael, we're not going to fight about this..." "Paul, I think I told you; I'm a lover, not a fighter!"
  • OMG, Paul, Lennon, Jackson, James Brown, Freddie Mercury... what times, what music he left us, with invincibles, they are eternal geniuses.

McCartney has reason to be mad and negative. Not just for the business but for the friendship and morals. For having his and John's songs being used in ways they never intended and never wanted. Yet he has clearly chosen not to be negative. He has chosen to state his views in a straight forward and often humourous manner. That speaks very highly of his personality and professionalism.

Michael choosing Beatles catalogs : "I want this, and this one, and this one, and this one."

I really admire that Paul McCartney didn't want his songs to be used in commercials and didn't benefit from their monetary gain. That says a lot about his integrity and I do think it would've devalued their songs. Bravo for him!

whats mind blowing is the consistency with which Paul recalls the story through a myriad of interviews, years apart. Incredible!
  • @AndrewLykins44
I love his point about not wanting to commercialize their songs. If you hear it 100 times on a commercial, eventually you’re gonna get tired of it. Even if it is a classic, timeless song. Paul truly is one of the greatest musicians to ever walk the planet!

He mentions something that I completely agree with I hate it when bands or artists come out with an album or song and within a year their songs are being played on television commercials 😖😖
