This is my very first time at carving with a chainsaw. From start to finish I filmed everything. I'm pretty pleased with the way that it turned out. I definitely learned a lot for the next time around! This took me a total of about 7+ hours, I think the next attempt will go faster as I would be more comfortable and experienced with the chainsaws.

But over all, I think it's a success!
Can't wait to try it again!

  • For that to be your first carving with a chainsaw that piece is amazing ! Don’t stop because you have the talent and your arms will get stronger and the saw will get lighter. I’ve been doing it for ten years and I learn more every time I do one and i love just taking a block of wood that nobody wants and turn it into something that most any body would want . Keep it up because you have the gift for it.
  • Nice bear. I have been carving for about 5 winters, this winter I’m tackling bears and other work. The best thing I did different this season is to build a table/clamping invention. Having the log about 22ish” off the ground and secured has let me use the saw in ways I used to risk cutting off body parts. Also wanting the heat of my studio, I have gone non-gas saws. Many more bears to you😎👍

Great job on the video AND carving! Looking forward to more saw work from you! It sure is addicting!
  • Quite good for the first Bear. Cracks are common and that is not a big one...at least not yet. Often most carvers will make a vertical cut on the back from the neck/head area straight down the back to the bears bottom or base .. about 1-2" deep. If there is still moisture in the wood it may release out the carved crack.
  • That's awesome. I want to try this so I looked for a my first bear video if I can do this good I'll be very happy.
  • WOW! And hear I am still thinking about it 🤔 I must say great job at first I thought you bit off more than you could chew. But after it was all said and done. Great job 👍
  • Fantastic job! You should be quite proud of yourself. I know how I felt on my first bear carve it sure feels rewarding. 👍🏼🍻💯

Great job. You should be proud of yourself !!.......Just fyi, if you make a relief cut in the back of the bear around 3 inches deep from the top all the way down through the bottom it will reduce the chance of cracking in the front. It still may crack but much less likely. Just a friendly tip.
