Every time I leave a room, I pretend I'm Van Morrison at The Last Waltz

the greatest 5 minutes of the 20th century
  • The Absolute Masterful Irish Good-Bye caught by Scorsese ought have won Oscar’s for Van and for Marty.
  • @eflows
II've watched this probably 5000 times and it only gets better.

Robbie Robertson is so in tune with this performance of a Van Morrison classic … RIP Robbie. So sad to witness the standard of music I had growing up , and the throwaway nonsense that gets churned out these days.

Van kills it. Love Robbie's face when Van is kicking it out. Priceless. You will be forever missed Robbie..... Peace.

How goddamn epic is this thing! Electrifying and unparalleled. Easily one of the best live performances ever.

This is by definition facing your fears, Van Morrison said he struggled with stage fright and you can see his intent to not look at the crowd but he gets out there and does what he has to and made one of the most historic live performances ever!

This is the difference between singing like you don't want to make a mistake, and singing with your heart and your soul and just going for it with every fiber of your being. Only by doing the latter are you going to create something memorable. "Turn up...your RADDIO!"

One of the best live performances of all time captured on video.

Look at the faces of the Band members when Van starts his Elaine Benes “little kicks.” It looks like they’re saying, “Isn’t this the greatest thing ever?”

Just an incredible performance all around. Van Morrison is electric. Robbie's guitar playing is on fire. Levon is just in awe the whole time. The kicks at the end. Thank you, Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel, Levon Helm. Thank God we still have Garth. Tonight, I'll turn up my Rah-dee-oh and play this. Rest easy, Robbie.

It's actually ridiculous how amazing and powerful his voice is. It's one thing to sound good on a record album, but what separates van is his ability to sing like that at a live concert. Ridiculous talent

In 1978, I was an 18 yr old kid in the Navy on a submarine on patrol. In those days for some reason we had access to “new releases” . I remember watching this movie and this performance, mesmerized, and to this day, I remember my words said out loud to no one in particular, “who is this man?” As soon as we got back to shore, I bought every record I could get my hands on by “Van the Man” . 40-some years later, I bet I’ve listened to and watched this performance hundreds of times and always feel like it’s the first time I “discovered” Van Morrison.
  • There's something mystical about the horn section at the end, a slow and subtle entry which grows in ecstasy as Van prepares for the greatest exit in rock history.

Be honest, at least once in our life, we have all done those kicks and pretended we were Van Morrison while listening to this song
  • In my opinion the best ever live performance by a major artist. This is simply insane. Thats how good this is. Amazing.

2024 and I still hold that imaginary mic in the mirror when I’m drunk and sing the fck out this song! Morrison your a legend
  • Van left IT ALL on the stage when he walked off! Truly legendary performance
