Elden Ring has had many patches since its release 2 years ago, but what is its first version like to play? And how different is it to the game we now know?

Not surprised they took the purple flames off of Maliketh's attacks. There's a whole video out there about color theory in ER, but the ultra-short version is that the colors of things in this world matter, and purple tends to be more associated with space stuff (Radahn's gravity magic, Astel's attacks, etc.). So from a concept level the purple could be considered a mismatch with the Destined Death attacks. Won't deny it still looks pretty darn cool though.

In the day one rivers of blood scaled with faith instead of arcane and it was godly, the mimic tear also would use flasks so it could literally solo bosses.

Actually. I bought elden ring disc day 1. When doing so I lived on a sailboat and could not update the game. For the first 6 months. After watching 2 or 3 guide videos. I knew I was screwed due to version 1.0. It was super fun but really like a randomizer run.

I was falling asleep to this video really late at night and i suddenly woke up right at 33:58 and i was trying so hard to make out what "BEAST PASTA" meant with my tired brain

Fun fact you might've missed: From what I've heard, Margit's cutscene in the first version of ER was different. His sword was burning in one scene. They got rid of it, because it contradicted the lore, where fire is considered "heretical" and Margit was with Golden Order or whatever

I don't think I've ever seen a single-player game change this drastically so soon after the full release. I could more understand if there were large changes over the course of many smaller patches, but for this much to be changed basically from day 1 is crazy.
  • Interesting how a lot of the stuff from the network test was only chanced on the day 1 patch. The UI, the Night's Cavalry not having a health bar, Margit having Malenia's soundtrack... Very surprising Edit: Correction, a lot of the network test stuff was patched a day before the game was released.
  • The fact they considered TWO Waterfowls??? I'm so glad they didn't commit...

“Now, do you understand?”I feel like this should’ve stayed. It makes more sense in terms of the fight, before the fight starts she tells you to listen to her and that she’s never known defeat. You still challenge her and she beats you, so her asking if you understand now fits

Lordsworn’s greatsword DEFINITELY did not swing like that

Dude— I’m so glad someone has finally made a video on this. I got the game day one and never updated it because of my terrible internet. I only realized that I was basically playing the game on hard mode when I beat the dragonic tree sentinel and my game wouldn’t let me past the door behind him without me updating the game.

Proof that pre-patch Radahn is just a myth. The only moveset difference is the projectile speed lol

I’m glad you confirmed what I’ve been thinking! I bought the disk, and don’t have internet so this is the version I’m playing. When I’m looking things up online there are sooo many things that don’t match up from what I’m told online to what my game actually says. Things like cookbook locations, names of locations and all sorts of items, and even damage type for specific weapons is different. It was a bit annoying trying to navigate with differences.
  • “The most important check possible. Millicent still exists.” Could this be one of my people? notices the profile picture oh my god it is

using the magic beam against the rotted tree avatar seems redundant? It's resistant to magi and weak to fire, so just use the other attack of SoNaF.

There's a couple of really funky music changes in here that you didn't mention in the vid. In the final game Niall uses Old Warriors. In this he uses Grave Wardens (generic catacombs boss music). I would've called that out as a likely placeholder for non-remembrance (or just non-main story) bosses, but then Astel for some reason has Erdtree Knights? Maybe Astel's considered closer to a world boss, and that's a placeholder for those? Also Gideon has Godfrey's music, for some reason. Also I'm pretty sure Astel's meteors aren't orange in the final game. Also Placi's big spear attack not only didn't stop the music, it also lacked it's unique sound effects and AoE display.

The UI in this version is very similar to the UI of the version that streamers played during the public network test that took place a little bit before the game fully came out
