Steve Hackett performs “After The Ordeal” and “Firth Of Fifth,” both from his new album, “Selling England By The Pound,.” That’s a custom Fernandes that once belonged to Gary Moore. “We shared the same tech at times, Graham Lilley, who sold it to me after Gary died,” Steve said. He’s running through a Sans Amp GT2. Catch our review of the album in the January issue: cloud.3dissue.com/196659/197012/230687/VGMJAN20219…

and How'abouts a round of Applause for Keyboardist, ROGER KING!

Two middle aged men having the time of their lives reminding us how great music was in the 70's. And long may they continue to do so!
  • Some guitarists wanna impress you by being the fastest, but then there's people like Hackett and Gilmour who wanna break your heart with emotions.

I am 65 years old. This is part of the memories of my youth. Every part, every chord. What infinite beauty!
  • That Firth of Fifth solo has to rank as one of the greatest moments of the 1970s. And so, by default...all time.

As I advance in years (66), I become increasingly appreciative of the wonderful music that musicians such as Steve Hackett and others have given us. I am thankful that I have lived through a time that has given us these amazing creative artists.

Absolutely beggars belief that 40 people can dislike this. Hackett is perfection. You show me a better demonstration of the craft than that. Not exactly sure what those 40 people were expecting, but if they can’t recognise the man’s talent then they don’t belong here anyway.

Nobody does atmospheric haunting guitar solos like Steve Hackett. Nobody.

Steve is one of my artists of all time. The Genesis years with Him and Peter Gabriel in the band were the best by a country mile. I'm so glad that Steve is keeping the flame burning for of us that loved those early Genesis albums.
  • Unquestionably the most "Beautiful" guitar solo I've ever heard. Never tire of anything from Selling England by the pound.
  • I loved the haunting Firth guitar solo when I discovered genesis at age 14 and still love it at age 59. Thank you Steve!
  • What about a shout for Roger King?? Let's face it, without Roger, Genesis revisited would struggle to happen. He is so good that it's almost impossible to tell that it wasn't Tony Banks playing the keyboards.

After The Ordeal is one of the most underrated Genesis tracks .. and Steve Hackett's contribution to Genesis was likewise underrated .. IMO

Yes, King is great. But Hackett is astounding. I saw him with his group on March 1, 2024, and tears came to my eyes.

This is the difference between Steve and current Genesis tour guitarists. Steve got HEART in his performance. Something that makes you weep and experience real feelings. Not just a "cool solo", but more like a tragic story told through guitar.

Speaking of After the Ordeal, I am so appreciative that after the ordeal of having a lot of his songs rejected, Steve Hackett still plays us Genesis from his time in the band. It means a lot to us die hard early Genesis fans
