Chorus:
I walked the avenue, 'til my legs felt like stone
I heard the voices of friends vanished and gone
At night I could hear the blood in my veins
It was just as black and whispering as the rain
On the Streets of Philadelphia

Ain't no angel gonna greet me
It's just you and I, my friend
My clothes don't fit me no more
I walked a thousand miles
Just to slip this skin

Just being fighting cancer for the last twelve months and this is just how I felt, praise the lord I got the good news I'm cancer free two weeks ago. This song touches me so much and anybody I'll I will help if possible.

I know this song was written about a person dying of aids but the lyrics remind of what my dad felt when he was dying of cancer. It tears me up every time I hear it. Rest in peace Dad, I miss you but I'm glad you're no longer in pain

This song never fails to bring me to tears. It brings to my mind and heart my first love, who perished from AIDS in 1991. He and I had parted ways 10 years before he died, but he never married, nor had anyone in his life, so my husband and I cared for him for the 8 months he lived after being diagnosed with AIDS. My husband is a magnificent, caring, compassionate man to have accepted this responsibility, and I am forever grateful to and for him. ❤

Going through a lot in life, no job, no friends, no sleep, feeling worthless..
  • Homeless now, sleeping in my car, was military for 13 years and was diagnosed with a heart arrythmia issue that side lined. Just had surgery the other day on my heart and I'm in my car recovering, seen another homeless guy and I didn't have much myself and I gave him my water and he cried and it hit me, especially the part in this song that no angel is goin to great me, it's just you and me my friend..... God bless and merry Christmas! Update: I am in a apartment, car broke down last month but still walk to work, I still owe on that care because I had not great credit when I got it from the bills I defaulted on because I had to miss work over the heart stuff, but I have since filed bankruptcy, got a apartment, rebuilding credit and knock on wood my heart is holding up now! I had to have an Ablation procedure done and some other things but I’m holding up. Tryin to pay off this car to get a newer car and have one I’m paying on that I can drive. I appreciate the love and support! Not all homeless are fake nor do they ask for help, just remember that. We’re just like you but something happened to side line us, try and remember that.

The capture of Springsteen's voice while walking, his neglected apparence and the unscripted reaction of people give this clip a raw and unmatch power that goes straight to the heart.
  • My dad passed a few days ago , Bruce was my dad’s biggest fan I swear there wasn’t a day growing up I didn’t hear him singing to your songs in his truck 🤍 he rode that truck to the ground he was a strong man and was fighting a disease, he fought strong. Rest in peace Paul Renfrey love u.
  • This was my dad's favorite song from this movie. He passed away last Saturday at the age of 83. Dedicated to you, Dad. ❤

❤❤ We were so proud to be in this video, all my classmates, my two older sisters and friends from two other schools got the chance to meet Bruce Spingstien and take pictures with him. We did the running scene in the park 4 times, I'm the kid in the yellow pants, and my eldest sister was the girl jumping rope. It was an experience of a lifetime, and we all were so happy to be apart of it.❤❤

Imagine being born in the 70's..loving 80's music..experiencing the wonderfully eclectic 90's..and being privileged to watching Y.T as a tool to revisting your childhood memories...😎👍

Im HIV+ and have been since 1989 (or before this). It's now 2023 and I'm still alive! This song holds strong memories for me of a time when I thought I would not live much longer for there werent any meds yet. ❤ 0:16

This song got me through very tough times when I was homeless for 3 years. Hard not to listen to this and not cry. Wish I could hug everyone out there who is doing it tough. Stay up 🙏🏽

Sending my love to all who come here, who were crushed by their lives but still carry on, those who are fighting battles that no one knows about. You are all great!!
  • Bless the song maker for reaching out to the weak. My wife has a rare blood cancer. She's had it since 2004. She's still alive . To all those that have a bad disease I pray for all of you. Since my wife's had her disease I look at things very differently now. My sister had abandon us when she found out my wife had cancer. Lot of our friends don't stay in touch. But we have God. Thanks again to this songwriter.
