Astrology and Health, with Kira Sutherland

Published 2023-06-24
Kira Sutherland joins the podcast to talk about how to look at the topic of health and wellness through the lens of astrology.

During the course of the episode we talk about some of the different ways that the birth chart can be used to study the topic of health, both in terms of what it looks like when health issues arise, as well as some strategies for maintaining optimum health.

Some of the technical points we touched on were the different houses associated with health in the birth chart, specific ailments associated with the planets, and how astrology can be used to help determine the unique constitution of each individual.

24:10- 1st house- physical body 6th house- illness 8th house- weaker health 12th house- loss Saturn- skin, bones, ligaments and tendons- slowed down, fatigue, teeth problems. Saturn in 1st- people change their diet. Saturn in the first- always cold Mars in the first - accidents- heat, swelling, inflammation and pain. Colds and flus. Shingles, herpes. Acute things, falls, stings.
  • @TECHN0
Medical astrology always blows me away
  • 13:13 I’d like to offer one correction from Vedic perspective- Venus is sugar-cane, Jupiter is Honey, Sun is Jaggery and Moon is lactose. Neither are “high fructose corn syrup”. In fact all those instant/shortcut/artificial foods (including using the microwave) fall into the signification of Rahu/North Node, and frankly I think that’s the main “culprit” - if you will - these days. Hope this helps 🙏
  • Prior to the Cultural Revolution in China, there was a cosmological branch of Chinese Medicine. Manfred Kubny has done extensive translation work to make this available in German and English. As a Chinese Medicine practitioner, using Western Astrology is an essential component in coaching my patients through the energetic pattern they are experiencing.

Superb guest speaker. Thank you for this topic. 💚

Planets in the 6th house can also pertain to the healer.

Fantastic podcast, probably the best I've listened to in a long time. And your 'lengthy' descriptions are much appreciated. They offer breadth and depth to the conversation.
  • Still awaiting the episode on meteorological astrology, earthquakes etc. 😊
  • Hello Kira and Chris. I have been a medical translator for about 17 years and started last year as a practitioner in astrology. I would definitely love translating texts from you both to French if you ever need a specialized professional. Thank you so much for this passionating podcast!
  • So glad to see this. Health is such an important life topic and it doesn't get the attention it deserves in astrological analysis. But I also think that with Hellenistic astrology, we finally actually have the right interpretive tools to be able to do that so it is now much more possible to make accurate predictions. For example, seeing just the 6th house significations from the perspective of traditional astrology, clearing away the modern interpretations, has been such a game changer for me.
  • 19:00 is so interesting cuz recently I’ve hypothesized that when sent into a fight or flight state, they exude their rising sign characteristics to a T. Also goes sorta with the idea that ur rising sign is shaped or determined or plays along with the conditions you grew up in from a young age and how u were shaped, which could also lean into how we are when triggered
  • This talk is absolutely fascinating to me & I want to thank you both for this so practical & applicable practice of astrological knowledge. I have a lot of rather varied types of medical career in my background. My main career path was as a midwife, after becoming a veterinary technician, then a dental assistant, then as a midwife working in birth centers, teaching, a primary care clinic & eventually a homebirth practice, still teaching & training apprentice midwives. I always moved in the transition into another field of study. I became much more focused on herbs & alternative healing methodology. Then became a 1st responder as a volunteer in my local rural township and took the training to get an EMT license. This was after getting a license as a nurse's aid, home health aid & a rehabilitation aid & working 15 yrs at a nursing home. I worked as a special ed paraeducator for my local school district & became a substitute teacher. Then I worked for 17.5 years as a direct support professional for an agency serving in a group home of individuals with developmental disabilities. This was after birthing my 2nd child who is on the autism spectrum. The synastry aspect is so real & I feel as a divine led happening. As a midwife I had so many births with the fetus presenting in a posterior position. I was able to recognize this often nebulous malpresentation when even obstetricians didn't in transports for delayed labors. So, of course, my own 2nd child's birth was a very large head presenting posterior! And my 1st child's was an asynclintic (sideways) presenting head position, with a no progress of 2nd stage at home. This birth resulted in a forceps delivery in the hospital. Astrology has been a life long passion & has become a real study pursuit for me in the last 15 years. This is the beginning of my last chapter of my working life at almost 67 yrs. I am always seeking the divine. 💓
  • As an allopathic medical doctor this is very interesting. I have signed up for the course. Thank you. My 6th house is Pisces… hmmm.
  • Loved this. Always been interested in medical Astrology. My friend, a 99-year-old, said she'd lived that long bc she'd kept away from the doctors and only took herbs. She didn't drink or smoke and ate lots of sugary foods. She had exalted Jupiter/Saturn.

I like how approachable Kira makes learning medical astrology. Thinking of the elements sounds like such a simple but useful way to think about health and dispositions. This is a topic I've been wanting to learn more about so thank you Chris Brennan for offering this introduction with a stellar medical astrologer!
